Fog of War!

OK I like the fact that we have all maps for all areas, map acquisition in XI was tiresome to say the least, Crawlers nest anyone? but I don't like the fact that I can see a whole area or dungeon from the first time I enter it. I say fog the maps out and unveil it as you move about.

Oh god please no. I HATED dealing with that in XI. It's the one thing you will NEVER hear me fuss about in XIV. LOL

I just think it makes exploring less exciting, knowing exactly where you are all the time. I would be happy with a toggle option so people could have it if they wanted.

Ok agree and agree. If I'm a low level trying to haul a$$ across a new map, I'm not trying to explore and theres NO way I can visually remember a brand new area so this idea to me would be a good one.

I love the idea of Fog of War, Brings a bit more to the game.

I have to say, this is one of my biggest problems with FFXIV. Areas stayed mysterious and interesting for so long in FFXI, simply because I was afraid to explore. I feel in FFXIV, once you walk in, and see the map you've basically seen everything : \

When you say it like that ... I feel sad now. lol

I agree with the OP. There's very little sense of exploration to be had at the moment. New maps will definitely help, but immediately knowing exactly what's where isn't exciting, in my opinion.

I hated the coffer-based maps you should always be able to acquire a map outside the area it comes from, but the CN one was one of my favourite quests in the game and a great way to entice players to visit some remote areas which otherwise they'd probably never go to.

I actually don't like the fact we get the maps for 'free', but if we have to then yes please, implement FoW to make exploration meaningful.

Apart from hating the coffer method, I also loathed the fact that the maps were incomplete (eg. Dunes, and many others) and there was no way to usefully annotate additions (eg. Secret Beach and the link to Gustav).

From a 'lore' PoV, given how the maps are said to have come into being, it made no sense that the maps would be incomplete, 'secret beach' for example wasn't exactly hidden in any way.
