I thought that since the old Lodestone of 1.0 is closing and the closure of the 1.0 forum it would be a good idea to do this to say good bye it.
So come all share your favorite or maybe terrible experienc, moments, fails, or LOL moments in 1.0.
Let's give these 2.0ers a taste of what the game was like back then.
1 the fact that Hilldibrand became so popular when he was originally supposed to make 1 appearance great character.
2 big seamless zones good idea bad in practice so much lag.
3 all the people who stuck it out to see the end of an era YAY.
4 the last job quest needed a full party in hopes to compleat it
5 to realize the red moon was a prison for Bahumat on the day after 1.0 ended EPIC.
So long and good bye 1.0 you'll be missed?

I shall simply say how much I miss the writing from v1.0.
I miss actually having a sense that my character was just a normal person trying to get by and survive, and not some super special unique infallible hero (just like everyone else). Their achievements felt meaningful, the NPCs weren't degraded by having them constantly suck up to my character, and it was a story I could imagine happened to my character as a part of something bigger, instead of the end result just being having it slammed in my face over and over that it was all meaningless, because everyone's the super special unique one and therefore no-one could have been. Now? Now we've got Thancred lying to our faces, claiming we single-handedly defeated Ifrit instead of needing the help of a party (a pattern that's just gone on and on, since. Most things don't emphasise it quite that badly, but not a one of them credits your friends or shows them with you in cutscenes the way v1.0 used to). It's so bad that a literal-reading of the first encounter with Ifrit actually comes out looking like you let the people that helped you face the primal be executed as tempering-addled lunatics in order to steal credit for the victory, and that you left another group of friends to die as Castrum Meridianum collapsed.
I miss being able to enjoy the storyline rather than sitting through it just the once to extract what thematic information I can about a genuinely fascinating setting, whilst trying to ignore the endless boot licking. And I miss the Echo being written as something complex and morally grey, that could hurt a person's memories if used clumsily - why didn't we ever see the vengeance Raya-O promised for having her precious memory of her big sister violated by an echo-user? And why'd we have to have all the mystery v1.0 was working with just infodumped on us by a voiceover in ARR's opening cutscene? The song 'Answers' was so named because it used to be part of a puzzle; and one of my favourite moments in the original storyline was the realisation that a lot of the things my character had been experiencing hadn't been real.
The original release was a catastrophic mess, but it's a mess I would have rather seen fixed than steamrolled into this themepark-esque ego-fantasy we have now. There are plenty of things to enjoy about v2.x, and I understand the necessity behind most of the changes .. but I don't think I'm ever going to lose the sense of melancholy I get whenever I think of the game and philosophy the original wanted to go for, but for being kicked out the door by executives without testing or balancing, and with the equivalent of just a year's proper development time in an engine that wasn't fit to use. -

I think I'm glad I didn't have a beefy enough PC back then to play 1.0 or it would've put me off XIV forever, every single gameplay video I've seen is either too dull and plain or very slow and boring.
To those saying 1.x was better, maybe that's because it was so bad it was actually good in some ways but you can't deny that 2.0 turned that mess around, the comparisons such as the Primal battles and hell even general movement are Night and Day. -

I kinda wished the old lodestone were just moved to a more less expensive server instead of shutting them down permanently, but I guess this can't be helped.

I'm agree with Fensfield, I don't think the game needed to be steamrolled completely but rather fixed. Right now when i see people riding bears, lions or some kind of unicorns (thundered hoof and fired horn) that has nothing to do about a Final Fantasy series or either see some primals being defeated in dungeon like Diabolos or Fenrir (which is a dark based element avatar by the way not ice) i really wonder what's going on with the game ........ at least 1.0 didn't have those incoherence.
