So, now that the class-specific gathering and crafting green gear is on its way to becoming obsolete, could we maybe have them opened up for glamour on battle classes? They're some of the most unique and detailed models in the game, so it would be a real shame to lose them to the race for better gear.

Why are they becoming obsolete? Has new gear been announced? I know there is foragers but thats not enough enough to make i55 obsolete since they cost so damn much

They're becoming obsolete because there is gear with better stats, that can be fully melded much more easily, and can be used for every class, thus reducing armory clutter. There is also content that is very difficult or impossible to do without this better gear (3 and 4 star recipes).
Even if the actual gear prices are high (though they have come down, at least on Adamantoise), it will ultimately be far cheaper to fully meld a single set of gear for all your classes than it would be to potentially have to do it eight times for crafter and three for gatherers.
At this point the class-specific greens are the crafting equivalent of Darklight and Myth gear...stepping stones until you can make/afford current gear. -
