Hi, everyone. I've been having really bad lag the past few days and I've noticed it's not just me. I've seen a ton of people complaining about it. Anyone else having this problem? Do you think SE can or will ever fix it?

SE can't fix the internet...
The Garlean technology we have stolen only allows so much functionality. Give Cid a bit longer.
It's been perfect for me. There are many things between you and the server that can cause problems. It's only the server if literally everyone has the problem. Se can't fix the internet.
It has not just been the past few days.
I have not logged in for about 3 weeks due to xmas holidays ect, but even a few weeks before that, a lot of my friends where commenting on lag, and even opting to log off - as it was unplayable.
So yea, thousands of people are suffering from this lag, so dont worry its not only you.
It seemed to start a week or so before the 2.4 hotfix were implemented as we guessed mabye the servers where unstable and would simply be fixed by the hotfix.
But nope.
Considering December and January are the months that most folks take holidays, I am not surprised. The servers could just be weighed down with the extra traffic of folks who are on holiday wanting to play. I have been getting bad lag (even with my VPN on) mostly during peak hours NA time. That usually doesnt happen to me unless it's patch week or free login week.
Black loading screens are 40+ seconds on my PS4. And I'm not the only one it's happening to. DF parties been comlaining as well. Never really had lag since I upgraded from my PS3.
That's not how any of this works...
Are you in the US? There's a networking company called Level 3 with a point up near Montreal that frequently has packet loss problems. Your connection to XIV's servers might run through it depending on your ISP and what part of the country you're in.
The problem's been around intermittently since launch, but it's especially bad the past month or two.
Here's a thread about it from a year ago.
I'm hoping the lag is going to die down soon with people coming back to work from holidays. I've also been experiencing bad lag during NA peak times since around the holidays, and before then during the major Level 3 issues.
With 2.5,2.51 and 2.5 part 2 (nicknamed 2.55 by players but I don't think it's actually been called that yet) just around the corner, I fear my hopes may be in vain. If it's the way it is now, I can play through it but if it gets worse, well...here's hoping it doesn't.
Wish SE had more servers at different locations so that I could pick/transfer to a server that has the best route for my location (like wow has a bunch of server locations, so a player can ping them all to find out which is best for them if they wanted to).
Not sure where you are all playing from, but an EU datacenter has been confirmed.
But thats a long ways off implementation, and doesnt help you now, I guess.
Something to look forward to though, as that surely has to help congestion/lag/ping.
