How does one cancel a zodiac trial?

How do you cancel a zodiac weapon you no longer want so you can start one you do?

You dont? You just do all the steps over again

Right now, the NPC is telling me I can't start a new trial because I've already started another. the first one is on the second book of 9. I really don't want to finish that weapon, however.

You can give the book back to the NPC, equip the other atma weapon you want to buy books for, then buy a new book.

Oh, you mean the trial for the animus weapon. The NPC who sells the books has a "book disposal" option. You use that to cancel.
