Use Secure authentication Protocals
Since SE and Sony insist on our end being secure why not do the same on their end. just initiate the same protocol as the banks, (https) or encrypted email protocol. We are talking about financial transactions as we are paying subscription fees for both services. This way they could filter out erroneous isp and ip addresses and allow the legit customers in the door. Would not stop a Ddos attack but would help them shut it down faster and more efficiently. Also would make them accountable to services with minimal financial impact on them. win/win

It would appear that with as many computer people we have playing this game the community at large seems more interested in flaming and trolling than providing a reasonable alternative that is at least a helpful discussion

If it were that easy, companies out there would have already done it and DDoS attacks would be a thing of the past.

It doesn't matter how good your security is, a DDoS attack is imitating legitimate server traffic and overloading the servers ability to handle that traffic.

For a real world analogy, imagine if 100 people tried to enter the same door, at same time, all claiming they were first and should get in. Thats is basically what a DDoS does.
Or even just thousands of callers at the same time to the same number. Things get congested.
And you cant just block it, because that kills legitimate users already connected at the time the DDoS goes down, as well as people trying to connect from the region you blocked who have legitimate reason to connect to your server.

-Cloudsource your servers to check for bot entry. It'll take a moment to check first time access for most, but it's better than weeks of nothing.
-Hire hack prevention and keep them hired.
-Don't store vital/sensitive information in unencrypted text files.
