110 green fish...a lot of potential wasted.

There are more than one hundred of green fish and only 2 or 3 are ingredients of recipes (worm of nym and aetherlouse)...the others are only for vanity purposes...honestly, this is a lot of potential wasted. Things like feast of famine's title, the ironworks rod or a few silly summer pareos are not making the cut...especially because they are all useless vanity (except for maybe the rod, though it's still vanity because its only real use is to catch all these monstrous legendary fish such as endoceras, namitaro or nepto dragon which you only go after for the title).

I was thinking, with gold saucer coming (it is coming right?)...can we have some sort of fish attraction? Like a fish race or something?

And if that's not possible...can we please have at least some use of these brutally rare fish that is not pareos and a title?

Fishing seems to be there just to kill time. Just like those Sightseeing logs, you get minion and 2 achievements but thats it.
Any sort of competetion would be kinda silly, since Big Fishing is all RNG. Sometimes u have fish that requires 50 less Gathering than what you have and you get 20x Fish gets away... message and then u catch one HQ where u barely had enough Gathering. Its weird.

I'd say if you want to change something about them, make all big fishes have chance for some sort of materia (from Desynthesis).

Now when looking at the Desynth info, they give mostly Fine sand which is like worth 1 gil.
They went to better direction this patch, stuff giving materials for i110 crafted armors and Crit/Dete/Parry/SS IV materias.

I'm just fishing because of Master Caster title, and might as well get the ironworks tool while im at it.

Correct, they want fishing to have as minimal an impact on the economy as possible, Yoshi-P himself said it was being designed in 2.0 > onwards as a "Bit of Casual Fun".

Fishing may be the least useful gatherer in the game but I argue it's the one that requires the most dedication. A lot of people do it for the fun rather than to earn a quick buck.

Honestly, I don't understand then, why should mining and botany have an intended impact on the market and fishing shouldn't?

How is fishing with sometimes a 1% chance and even lower in specific time windows and specific weather more casual than mining say ores lol?

Not like you can't literally earn millions of gil by fishing worms of nym and turning them into tailor made eel pies anyway...so not working as intended?

I don't understand their reasoning.

They may add aquariums for housing in the future. In the event that they do i can see big fish being highly sought after. See below link to dev post.

That post is however from July...and they haven't said anything about it. An aquarium would definitely be cool.

Casual fun....I think he meant RNG hell.

I'll be honest: You really don't want some of the big fish out there to be mandatory for ingrediants. Worm of Nym being added now? That's actually not that bad considering its wide availability windows and relatively low gathering requirements. Add in ones that have two-hour windows with rare weather requirements? Hell, I can only imagine the screaming if Nepto Dragon were to be required for something.

Fishing is by and large its own ecosystem. You fish because you want to fish, not because you want profit.
