Sometimes...I just can't even describe the shock, followed by the rage, followed by the WHY GOD WHY!
Srsly though, pretty pissed, and it's going to cost me 150$ to get this fixed...great start to the holidays...

You have my condolences.
I sure hope you do not rage if your PS4 malfunctions again upon collecting 75 alexandrite.
Should of waited for the 2nd PS4 model >:D (Good old faithful PS3 slim)
That's a bummer though xD
The PS4 does not have the same specs as a midrange PC. It has the specs of a decade old low end PC, and in some cases two decades old. It's got a 1.6ghz processor for example. Granted it's an 8 core, but still. You haven't even been able to buy a 1.6ghz CPU for PC since the nineties.
That's an oxymoron.
damn man, my symphony's. Maybe your PS4 got over excited and bricked itself?
Your are right, the PS4 does not have the same specs. It has better specs than a current midrange machine.
A computer, be it laptop, PS4 or your smartphone is more than just the CPU speed to determine performance. A PS4 is definitely a moderately powerful computer.
Single core CPU has had a max speed of about 3.5GHz for several years because of the thermal barrier. Heat impedes speed, more transistors per core equals more heat.
10 years ago as you say multi-core processors were new (yes, yes, math co-processors were available since the mid 90s but not in wide use).
Dual core CPUs have been the norm until about 2 years ago. Now, it is Quad core, it will be 8 core in about 5-7 years.
As for the other components vs a "mid-range" laptop.
Memory: PS4 is better and will be for a while
PS4: 8GB GDDR5 at 5500 MHz
10 Yr: 512MB DD2 at 100 MHz
Laptop: 4GB DDR3 at 600 MHz (average; 800 MHz max) still sold frequently usually in the low end machines
Laptop: 4GB DDR4 at 1200 MHz (average; 1600 MHz max) currently taking over
Laptop: 8GB DDR5 only available in the highest end models; look for 5 years before is reach current DDR4 state
My current machine has 16GB of DDR4 and it is well above the average mid-range machine.
HDD: Tie with current market
500 GB at 5400 RPM
This drive is changeable; and can be replaced by 7200 RPM or solid state; Both of which will increase performance.
GPU: Tie with current market
Laptops will surpass the PS4 on this in a couple of years.
Um. Do you not have a warranty on your PS4? In this day and age you need to have a warranty on everything. Sigh.
My condolences.
