Legitimate Concern - the Au Ra & Clipping

Will more be done to combat clipping issues in the game for Heavensward?

With a race that now has huge tusks coming out of its face, I worry.

Not a troll thread, not insulting you SE. I just have a legitimate concern & want to know what your approach will be.

I already can't use a huge number of the game's hairstyles in the game because of how you handle a lot of the collars on gear.

I can see Tusks going straight through a ton of the collars... now long-hair AND tusks clipping :/, I'm worried, please dispel my fear.


P.S. I am SO HAPPY that you made the Gun Job a DPS! Also, Astrologist looks epic (always wanted to play as Orran or Olan in FFT, now I get to!)!!

Well, from anytime I've encountered it in the past, you literally just let it clip through most-gear.

As there are multiple horn styles, it'll most likely just sit through the helmet, (or they'll adjust it accordingly to provide a hole).


There's a VERY high chance for older gear it'll simply just sit THROUGH the helmet, the chances of it having a 'cover' for the horns is next to none for older items.

Yup, I was just looking back at some of my old character models I'd made and how I'd been asked to "Add a Helmet" or "Add a belt" or "What if it had a backpack!?"

And I've simply just had to work with what I had by clipping left right and center or spent WEEKS adjusting each character model/accessory and it's just far too time consuming to even bother.


FFXIV's development team is too small to work on finite tasks like that (1.0 proved they couldn't). It's sad but true.

Concern about clipping with helms...






Helms adapt to big cat ears...

I imagine there will be holes provided... holes large enough that will accommodate any horn style/size sticking through, because all horns will be situated on the same 'place' on the head, even if not the same shape/size. Miqo'te have lots of helmets like this, as do Elezen... My real concern, though, is the hair... and the body armor that sticks up near the face. I guess the latter wouldn't get near the horns, though.

That has to be expected, while kind-of immersion breaking (in the how in the twelve did you even manage to get that on way), it'll work mostly.

Hopefully newer gear is dealt with more carefully with regards to clipping.

I don't mind them not going back & fixing outdated gear, but they need to keep moving forward.

Wouldn't be a problem if they still had that gear morphing tech. Such a shame it had to go with the old engine.

Even with holes, horns can still go through the tall-collars on a lot of gear.

Hopefully this means they'll do something about long-hair clipping or no Au Ra will be able to use practically any long hairstyle.

I think the horns will work like the Miqo'te ears.
Holes in the headpieces for the horns or a horn replacement on the headpiece while the actual horn is blended out. Also how the horns look it would be only a problem with full face headpieces or headpieces that also cover the sides of the head.

As an example there seem to be no horn clipping with the Astologian Hat, what we can see in the Asrologian video.
