Do tanks always rush?

Over the past month or so I've noticed a steady trend of tanks completely ignoring the party and rushing through dungeons as absolutely fast as possible; only to get bent out of shape if they die because they left the healer behind.

Now, I'm upset about this (as a healer), but I'm going to put that aside for the moment. What I really want to know is the mentality behind it. I understand not waiting for Stoneskin to cast on four party members, but I find it silly that Stoneskin 2 was added and we still don't get a chance to cast it.

Any time I ask about this in the dungeon itself I nearly get dropped for insubordination, so I wanted to ask here instead: Why is it that tanks always go as fast as they possibly can without paying attention to their party?

Tanks get raged on for going too fast, then get raged on for going too slow. It's a no win situation for them. It is usually the ones whining about going too slow that are the loudest. Most tanks just get it ingrained into their mind that they have to go fast.

Well you get tomes/exp faster when you speedrun the dungeon, isn't this a good enough reason to do it fast? You should cast Stoneskin 2 with Swiftcast between the pulls.

I personally HATE tanks who do single pulls and waste my time by doing that.

I hate wating, but I play, when I go in a dg as tank, even if I dont take 4-5 packs of monsters (maximum 3-4 depending on the lvl of the dongeon), I never wait 1sec, like some do :

Take 6 monsters, kill them, wait 25sec, take 6 monsters, kill them, wait 25sec, etc... (and that's becoz they dont watch thier aggro, they spam flash, even if they have enough aggro, and then they need to regen mana for the next monsters)

Same in raid, like ST, and that's why I go as MT, hate those that wait 1min there, and then even make a ready check before pulling even if everyone is on the spot, this is stupid.

Yeh I don't agree with the replies the OP got. I'm in the same boat as you, not that I can't handle it. But I will say this: 1 second will kill the tank if they do not wait for the proper buffs. I will not go out of my way if they don't take the proper precaution and wait for the buffs. If they die, they die and I dare them to say something to me. They can kick me if they like once they die, but 9 times out of 10 the DD agree with wait for yer buffs newbtank. Also good luck on getting that replacement healer in the case of a rare kick happens.

In their head they BELIEVE they are speed running, but they do more harm to themselves by not waiting for the proper buffs.

It takes the same amount of time as a good tank that controls the pace of the battle that approaches each mob non-stop and slaughtering the dungeon as it does to do large pulls with groups who can't even AoE spam efficiently. I do this alot as tank, but I will also do large pulls/speed runs upon request of the team. If I feel the team can't handle it, I don't do it, but if a DPS pulls aggro to me that I did not pull for purposes of a speed run, I let the DPS take the hate and I will not flash or overpower especially if I told them or the rest of the team say they don't want large pulls.

Oh here is my tl;dr answer to the OP: Those are just very HORRIBAD tanks. And there are alot of them, sadly...

I've been known to drop as a healer if I get a tank like that. I can do something else for half an hour, and not feel nearly as aggravated as I would if I continued trying to keep them on their feet.

Playing heals, I like big pulls early and often. If they want to run off they might have to sweat a little. But they have cooldowns for that first-pull while we do our stuff. Just like we do to help with dps.

The speed run all-the-time issue itself could be a lot of things. Like in high level dungeons you can pretty much tell they are on light or new zodiac duty and we all that is a is a grind in itself. We all like SRs when it works for everyone, but the fact they mixed new zodiac "atma" with the new-relic user dungeons that can sometimes create fun dilemmas.

A lot DPS and Healers have it in their in mind that Tank's are tools.
We're not, sometimes, when we want to run dungeons, we want to do it for fun.
I won't rush a dungeon unless it's a pre-made group with my FC.
Sadly, in my case, DPS and Healer's don't realize that they joined a PUG, if DDers or Healers choose to run ahead and pull packs in the hopes of me doing a speed run, I laugh, finish my mobs, and then watch them die. If I get kicked, I select 'Join in Progress', return to the dungeon and people shut up and do their jobs right, if they don't like it, they can go ahead 'dc' and enjoy another 1 hour wait (DPS) or suck it up (Healer).

^ This right here. I do not mind playing with a tank who can pull everything in one pull or one who needs to do them one at a time. To each his own, I just adapt as the healer and go from there, I will buff as we are running or just start casting Stoneskin when the last mob is about 10% you will finish the cast around the time it dies and boom you have buffs and tank can pull to his heart content.

Gamers whine about anything and everything, the tank pulls too slow, he pulls to fast, he has too much welfare gear, he doesn't have the warfare gear what a scrub. Less QQ moar pew pew.

As tank, you control the pace of the dungeon, DD controls the speed of how the enemies fall and healer is well healer. I would do the exact same thing as you would in your above example. I am the meatshield. i tell you what I can handle, even if I can handle them, sometimes I don't want large pulls. That's my call as tank. If you're getting hate from something I pulled then you have every right to say something to me, but if I am the one expecting to hold the hate: Don't. You. DARE. Pull extra mobs to me on purpose. I will pull up a lawn chair and watch as the adds destroy you.

Except that's not the case. It's not about whining or adapting. You get a tank that bitches at you because they died with their horrible gear on top of the fact THEY did not wait for buffs. That is the tanks fault, not the healer. I semi agree with the person you quoted, but the majority are just bad...NO TERRIBAD tanks.

My proposal: wait for your buffs, test what the team can handle and proceed and control the pace that suits your team as a REAL tank should.
