What am I doing wrong?

Why does it take so long to get 1k sp? Im currently r14 fishing at the lake near emerald moss...and most of the time its messages of fish got away...nothing bites...

Im using a rank 12 fishing rod and chocobo fly lures...

Can someone PLEASE tell me what im doing wrong? or is it really THIS slow to rank this job up?

Certain bait as far as i can tell works better in fresh water and other bait works better in saltwater. For example worm bait seems to work better in saltwater and bug bait tends to work better in fresh water. For a diffinitive answer consult the favored bait chart thats also in the Fisher's board.
