Well, it's the same problem with the Bridesmaid's Gowns being bound to females, while the Best Man's gear is both genders. It was kind of an odd solution, though I was happy to be able to wear a suit as a female. I feel kind of bad for the male characters who would be quite happy flitting around in the Spring Dress or Bridesmaid's Gown.

It wouldn't be without precedence, seeing a gigantic Hyur Highlander with a shaved head and angry expression wearing Scylla's Gown of Healing gave me a flashback to a certain movie- I kept expecting to hear him say "It rubs the lotion on its skin, or else it gets the hose again." A few people might understand where I'm coming from here, the rest will just think I'm crazy.
But... I seem to remember a highlander in a wedding dress in a side quests... spoilers suck so I won't say who... but I say let people be who they want to be. -

Income the comments: "But there's not as much stigma on women wearing men's clothes, etc" - it doesn't matter, it's 2014 and we're getting equal rights when it comes to the actual marriage system - we're getting gay marriage implemented in the game (which had been debated for a while.)
