Whats a Static?
FF 14 is the first mmo I've played, but I here people talk about statics all the time, I think its just a term for a raid group right. Anyway, whats the purpose of them, and would I get in one. Wanting to do some coil, since I finally finished up the main story.

A static is a group of people that only does a particular content with that group. Since coil has weekly lockouts you're basically forced to have a static because once you've cleared a turn for the week, you can't go back and do it again until reset. Additionally if you join a group with someone who has progressed further than you, you'll only be able to go to that turn. so If you're on turn 11, and someone else is on turn 10, and another person is on turn 13, the only turn you'll be able to enter is turn 13.
Having a static ensures that everyone in the group has progressed to the same point for the week and allows you to make sure you don't miss any loot from coil. This of course only applies to the Final Coil atm though. The previous turns of coil no longer have lockouts and therefore no longer require a static group.
