Ninja rotation help

So due to my old main job (Dragoon) being more or less unviable for turn 13 progression at this time, I picked up, leveled and geared NIN last week and gave it a spin in FCoB for the first time this week.

The results were far from impressive however. I ended up doing less DPS on NIN on every turn than I did with my Dragoon even before getting the ilevel 120 spear. My dummy parses on NIN end up in the 460-480 range while supposedly I need to be doing 520ish with the gear I have right now. (High Allagan Cleavers, Dreadwyrm pants, rest i110)

I was hoping someone here could shed some light on what I am doing wrong (if anything) or are the mudra input delays what is killing my throughput. I recorded a little snippet of dummy DPS and as you can see it keeps slowly gravitating towards 460. Had I kept going for another Huton cycle I would have ended up at the 460 dps mark.

First off dont suggest what dps you should do compared to some vid's out there, Mudras are very latency depending and i saw on your Vid that their cast wasnt so fast as on JP/NA servers so thats a little bit every 20 sec over there. So as u suspected your DPS is droping some every time u cast them.


Also, remember u were playing your DRG much longer so u still need some practice on NIN, thats how it was with me at least, every time i went to 10-12 i was getting a lil better and better, so just play alot.

So I'm not doing any blatant newbie mistakes rotationwise?
I've been lurking those threads since I started leveling Ninja. Sadly no help so far.

I didnt had much time to analyze your vid in depth, nor i am claiming to be smartest NIN out there.

There is alot of discussion about Dot opening VS DE opening, so 2 diffirent persons could tell u eighter way is better

Only thing that i noticed was buffing(IR/BfB) before initial attack wich i personally dont like, other thing is starting your combo 5 sec before Suiton, its cool but u can notice next Trick Attack ur doing Shadow Fang+Dancing Edge becouse your DE is getting down, where u could push SF+AEOL for more potency in that 10 sec window. U can achieve that by actiavating Suiton and then muving your combo past DE>Spinning before using TA itself then TA>ShadowFang>Spin>>AEOL, But then its around 6 sec loss on your next TA timer.
Secondly you could try to rework your starter and pull earlier starting with DoTs(around 10sec after Huton) thats what im using (except when i have WAR starting with debuff) then your next TA will comeout nicely on timers with SF+AEOL and even push in Multi in that 10sec window.
But as i said, opinions are diffirent for bouth openers, there is propably as many openers as there are ninjas, and whatever opener u use it wont change your DPS that much , you hoever should take some time and try few of them and see wich one is best for you.
For me best opener is one that sets your timers (buff/dots) nicely for second TA and foward.

Other than that your sustain is good, slight cut/drops of DoTs below 2 sec but thats mostly becouse of Mudra cast times and thats unfortunetly thing u cant improve, i have same problem and i see my DPS drop every mudra cast by little and im hitting around your numbers on dummie with similar eqips.

So my guess would be mudras. But maybe someone else will notice something.

I was opening with DoTs but I noticed that in the following rotations both Mutilate and Dancing Edge would fall off at the same time, leaving some downtime on whichever I choose to not re-apply first. (Though I suppose this is irrelevant in a raid envinroment with a WAR.) I tried different openers but like you stated, the opener doesn't have a massive impact in the grand scheme of things as long as it's not horribly messed up.

Thanks for your input though, I'll try your tips out.
