Blackscreen after switching back and forth between windows and the game

Hello,

this might have already been addressed before but I just couldn't find anything on the forums.
My problem is that when I keep switching back and forth between windows and the game (which I run in fullscreen mode) I sometimes get a blackscreen ingame. The sound is still there so I assume my game didn't crash but the screen never recovers after. So the only option I have each time is to close the game via task manager and to restart it then (and that's rather annoying). Looks like it might have something to do with my graphics card?

I play the game on a laptop (i7), windows 8, nvidia geforce gt 650M.
It would be really great if anyone could help me or got some ideas on how to solve this problem. :)

I had this same issue on my laptop, i5 windows 8.1 nvidia geforce gt 635M, and after getting desktop also on it, i7, windows 7, gtx 770 when I use fullscreen mode.

I though, "f*ck it" and started using borderless window mode, because that started to annoy me, and since after buying 2nd screen on the desktop, what's the point of it, if everytime I want to acces/use it the game either blacks out or image freezes, otherwise the game works, can use chat fine and run around.

its because you're using an optimus notebook, the hook on the nvidia GPU is lost during the screen switch.

Yes, this could indeed be the reason. But what I don't understand then is why the blackscreen doesn't happen each time I switch? 9/10 times I can switch back and forth without any problems and the 10th time I get the blackscreen...
Is there anything I can do to stop this from happening like changing some graphic card settings on my laptop?

Else I'll definitely try to run my game in borderless window mode to see if that helps.

There is a small chance that the nvidia gpu is turned off and 'lost' during the switch from nvidia(game) to intel(desktop), its been an 'infrequent' probem with optimus since the gpu switching technique was first released.
