Jobs question / opinion

Hey - First let me say, I've been back for about week now after a 6 month hiatus. I've really been enjoying the game and found some great people to play with! I like the direction Yoshi-P has taken the game and I look forward to patch 1.19 when I get to ride around on my chicken bird while is kyoo's and kweh's at me :cool:!

Question: Has there been any information from SE about new jobs / classes being introduced into FFXIV?

There is already a lot for me to do in the game, but having more options and unique classes / jobs would be amazing! I really want them to implement Bard... my favorite class from FFXI.

The main reason I ask is, that when I started this game I really wanted to be an Archer and when I came back about a week ago I realized... I've seen about 5x more Archers than any other class! I understand why, and it doesn't mean I can't be an archer as well. Just looking for info as I might has missed something SE said.

Personally, I am not excited about what I read in terms of jobs... but if they fix the classes to give a greater sense of class identity then maybe it won't matter.

New jobs are coming that are specialized versions of the current classes. Basically when you get a class to a certain level you will be able to undertake a quest that unlocks a new job. For instance, by getting GLA to 25 (speculation), you will be able to unlock Paladin. Jobs are different from classes in that they have a more more specialized skillset, and are unable to equip abilities from different classes (citation needed.)

They have said we are getting Paladin, Warrior, Dragoon, Bard, Black Mage, White Mage. Correct me if I'm wrong about those. I'm not positive on WAR, just saw it in another thread. Once the job system is implemented, they will be adding new classes, Arcanist and Musketeer.
