About Parley
I guess there isn't anything in the dev foruns related to Parley, so I guess there's no tag to put here.
Anyways, Parley is one of those many little features in this game that most people don't care, could be polished and is actually interesting in conception but somewhat poorly executed. This isn't as important as fixing some other issues, but I believe a little revamping would make Parley so much more fun. Also, this is directly related to a good deal of quests.
- 1 - speed. Parley is sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow. As in, really slow. Try making a combo with 4 or 5 pieces and see how long they take to reappear. This really could and should be fixed. This is extremely important since some quests with time limit requires you to parley.
- 2 and 3 - number of NPCS and rewards. There are just too few NPCs to parley with and the rewards are really subpar (you only get a new copy of those specific items you can bet). Put some more parley-able NPCs with more rewards.
- 4 - PVP parley. This is something I really don't understand why isn't there in the first place XD. Just a little thing to pass a bit of time, wouldn't hurt anyone :D
- 5 - Parley "ranking". As you defeat more opponents (NPC or player), your parley rank could increase and enable more NPCs with better rewards and stuff like that.
That's it. I'm sure this post will quickly drown in this forum, but....what can I do, right?
Oh,inb4 Tetra Master / Triple Triad (even tho any of those would be awesome), and also inb4 "the game sucks and this won't help it!".

Oh, another thing: I didn't see a parley guide anywhere, if I'm not wrong.

I have Parleyed twice. I just gave up after that. A guide would be great. An in-game guide would be even better.

I guess the first NPC you parley with actually teaches you, but nothing else. If you miss it (and you probably will, since there's like 1 NPC per city state), you may end up having to parley in a quest without even knowing how.

Parley is actually pretty interesting, although it wasn't until an old LS mate explained it to me that I started to actually enjoy it. It feels like a strange offshoot of Connect Four.
I agree that it needs tweaks, and I think it could be an interesting little mini game if it were more fleshed out.

I have tried normal parley way back when the game just came out and was not even working properly. I have not bothered to play it since, outside of when I am forced to in the storyline quests. The results were something like this.
Win-get back initial wager item (no reward)
Win-get back normal quality version of wager when betting a high quality version item
Lose-lose wagered item
I sent a bug report and it was clearly an unfinished product. It has an ability tab at the bottom that is grayed out if you bother to look. Your ideas do seem interesting but the part about PvP parley would be pretty difficult to do with parley the way it is. Even if each player simply chooses the best possible combination of icons, it is simply a matter of luck in who would win and who would lose based on what random numbers were generated by the computer making it a game of pure luck/no skill. The computer AI can also be justified as horrible as 10 star parley opponents still don't select the best icon choices available during their turns. It might involve more strategy if perhaps the next 3-4 icons that would load were visible at the side and such so that you could set up or prevent good icon sets for future turns. Parley is just seriously lacking considering it is the official mini-game of Eorzea and it's forced on you in about one third of all storyline quests.

Parley is the worst idea ever, and its implementation into the game is horrible. Use Triple Triad instead.

I actually agree with you that I have no idea why Parley was not introduced as at least more NPCs. I would like to see it PvP but somebody in my linkshell said SE would not want us to be in direct conflict. In reply to rentahamster, I would love to have triple triad in the game, but was that not done in XI?

Repeating previous games' minigames instead of creating something new is not a good idea, as much as they were awesome. Sorry.
