Server Repair
Im not a game designer. I having trouble understanding what the issues seem to be with the way the server are limiting the developers from doing, what seem should be fairly simple tasks (party flag, search feature, mail system) and more. This is not a attack - im sure turning this game around is a huge task, just looking for clearification on what Yoshi means when he says he can do these things right away because of server / root??
examples below from..
Famitsu FFXIV vol 1 summer 2011 / Reinheart's translation thread.
Yoshida: This requires changes to the system root so we can’t say right away but we should be able to show weather for each areas by the time of PS3 release
Yoshida: First we will make minimum required changes to the current UI and with server repair planning to release redesigned search feature. In patch 1.18 part of it will be modified. Forming parties with search feature means forming with random people and it might troublesome for some (laugh) so some just try it once and get angry and don’t use again…. It’s right that easier search feature and UI is needed but lastly it’s really up to the player to have courage.

What he means by "server / root" is that they are using trees as the servers.they have to be watered every day and they have been forgetting to do that so the roots don't go very far down. causing weak tree servers.....
OK, maybe that isn't what what he meant, but maybe he means the system architecture is difficult to program.

The services required to communicate between servers or between servers and client simply aren't there, or they're set up in such a way that there's an extreme amount of overhead needed for otherwise minimal information transfer. Not much "repairing" to be done on the machines, just correcting or implementing the communication software.

I just wonder if they have been working on this over time and are getting closer to a server that is easier to program or they are going to change all at once.

Don't take what i said seriously, because i was only going by what you said. I can't seem to find where YoshiSan says that.
