[dev1033] <<<Classic FF jobs with an FFXII style License Board>>>

Hey, I know I already made a topic about this, but I forgot to attach Dev Tags to it, and I wanted to be sure SE saw it, so I'm making the topic again.

Anyway, Yoshi-P said he had two different ideas for how to implement classic FF jobs in the future:

Yoshi-P's idea #1:
The traditional names would be introduced as “higher” or “advanced” classes, and would thus be something of a goal for players.

Yoshi-P's idea #2:
The traditional names would be more of a subset or specialization within the existing classes.

Personally, I prefer idea #2, as I like the idea of allowing specialization and customization of character abilities.

As for exactly how to implement the subset specialization, I thought it would be really cool if SE used something similar to the License Board from FFXII. Here's a couple images I made with Photoshop of what it could possibly look like:

I'm gonna have to go with idea #1. I don't like the idea of being a paladin "within" a gladiator. Paladin (for example) should be a job all to it's self. Now if Paladin were to be the main class, and gladiator a subset within it, I think I could deal with that but only because it's a traditional final fantasy name, with gladiator being the specialization (sword w/ small shield for instance)

I'm not quite shur how I feel about a license baord system. Something similar to the sphere grid system would work better IMO.

This is such a bad idea! Anything but this! Sphere-grid/license-grid/crap is just a bad idea! Just as bad as FFXII was - which was absolutely AWFUL!

I like both ideas a lot personally, however I agree that option 2 seems like the best "fit" for the armory system. There have been a few posts including yours that have outlined a few ideas for it already, of course I'd like to see how the devs themselves plan to go about it.

Either way, my vote is cast for option 2.

Sure, something like the Sphere Grid from FFX could work just as well. Personally, I don't see a whole lot of difference between the Sphere Grid and the License Board. They're both essentially the same thing.

Well I rather liked FFXII, thank you very much. But if you don't like the idea, do you think you could give a reasonable explanation as to why, instead of just going "OMG THAT'S SO STUPID"?

Just like with similar posts I stand behind option 2. Some good ideas i read is once a GLA for example reaches lets say 30 you can do 1 of 2 quests to allow you to be a paladin or darknight. Theres alot more info about this but i don't really want to copy/paste something already in its own thread.

My idea would be the sphere grid would work to rank up magic. Lets make this simple and say you take up BLM. You start in the middle of the grid and you have 7 branches for your elements (Fire, Water, Thunder, Earth, Wind, Ice, and Dark), you can put poitns in Fire then later on upgrade it to Fire II, etc.

I might try to make a mockup at some point.

Idea 2 sounds more reasonable based current FFXIV class system. In fact, traditional FF class system doesn't really conflict with FFXIV one, due to the so-obvious reason that FFXIV class system is one with much more customized possibility and flexibility across all FF series. Therefore, it's fairly easy to introduce traditional FF classes into FFXIV.

Take Paladin for example, there can be a class trial quest for obtaining a "Paladin title". The trial can be designed as that players have to use some specific actions (ex. cure2, sacrifice2, cover, aegis boon, and those are reasonable for being a Paladin) on self or a target during battles/stories process. This means players have to get those actions from different basic classes first and then put them together in use in order to be a Paladin. "Paladin title" can be designed as a trait for a substantial existence, and player can obtain bonus like defense up or shield damage cut up when the trait is set. In addition, class-specific gears can only be put on while class-specific trait is on.

In my opinion, I don't really see it's a problem. However, there will really be a "problem" if the current FFXIV class system is changed to match those old-school concepts...
