FF14 does take a hit in variety of the class system, but it also makes everything much much easier to balance. Especially when there is only one healing class. Square isn't putting as much manpower to the game as blizzard so I think the less they need to mess with rebalancing classes the better. Also if you hadn't noticed, blizzard keeps on reducing the uniqueness of the classes with each expansion.
If they opened up the classes more on skill/spell swapping. You wouldn't be asking for this. You would simply go make what ever class you wanted. I think yo should be able to make what ever you want with what ever skills you want and have certain signature skills/spells and traits be based on the class you pick. So you could pick a black mage and take away some of his aoe damage spells to plug in some healing or more dots for single target. That is the beauty of the ff job system is that You can pick and chose what you want to be and end up with something fun and interesting, but as of now you are very limited once you pick a job/advanced class. I wouldnt mind a ff tactics job version to plug into this game in all honesty.
