Is it possible to revamp Arcanist?

I honestly don't think its possible. Black mage has the impact spells, and arcanist can't be a buff only class with the pets doing all the work. I hate how the DoT system is. A single target can only have a max of 60 DoT that's fine, but when its the only means to do any real damage its a problem. Especially when your DoT gets lose when a bunch of DoTs is on a target. Maybe if they made the spells like miasma where the target takes damage then gets DoT'ed.

if you want bigger numbers in the log, go play blm. smn can do more than adequate damage.

I'm a pet user so its next to impossible to use any other class for me. But when it comes to CT, ST, or S rank hunts DoT can really annoying when a bunch of are DoTing as well. Also I heard that the dev team may go back and change something on arcanist or revamp the whole thing.

All the jobs are suppose to do the same amount of damage just in different ways. Acn isn't a buff class with the pet doing all the work; it's dot class that has support utility with a pet that does a small percentage of the work. Having spells that do damage in addition to placing a dot just sounds likes an Acn masquerading as Blm. OP, it seems like you're looking for the flair that only Blms can bring.

No, I'm not saying Arcanist is a buff class but if they did it can't be a buff class. The big glaring problem that everyone overlooks is that the arcanist main means of attack is its weakness when it comes to large scale fights like ST, CT, and s ranks hunts. They can't do any damage outside of pets and ruin when too many DoTs are on a single target. If they did change how would they? Because they might change it.

While the limit on debuffs is a little annoying, this is only a potential issue while zerging content that requires no serious DPS checks. We can already skip entire phases on ST bosses in random alliances; how much faster do they really need to die?

Used correctly, SMNs Egi does a substantial part of the SMNs DPS. 300ish from the SMN, 100ish from the egi. Not exactly "a small percentage".

Change in options to only display your status effects/dots on targets.

I think the first few responses are missing the point of his post, they aren't saying that ACN/SMN is bad, but it's currently the only job that will have it's job performance directly impacted in a large single target fight if more Summoners are present. While it's extremely rare to fill enough DoT DPS to hit the 60 cap limit of DoTs on a mob, it still is possible to do so and once this happens the Summoner that is trying to get DoTs on and can't will be unable to do any damage outside of Ruin/Ruin II.

Right now this only really (rarely if ever) happens in CT, ST, popular boss FATEs, and at one point Hunts, but depending on how content is created in the future it could be entirely possible to see more often, some might say the simple solution is to not SMN stack parties however the Duty Finder doesn't discriminate when it comes to picking DPS.

This doesn't work, mobs have a hard CAP of 60 DoTs any more than that will fall off and not apply, whether your not you can see your own DoTs past the visible 30 DoT limit is irrelevant.

Is it an actual DoT effect limit or is it a visible on the status bar thing limit?

I don't follow what you mean by a 'buff' class. Arcanist has all of one buff (Eye for an Eye) and the rest are debuff DoTs. The class with the most buffs is conjurer, but then that's part of their role as healer. Arcanist is a DD first and, at best, a half-arsed healer until they equip Scholar, and even then it's not as much of an improvement as it should be over White Mage, though that Galvanize buff is sublimely obscene. I don't think you understand how to fully use arcanist's varied talents.
