(ROG) Is this potency correct?

I was looking at my husband's screen and noticed Sneak Attack has a max potency of 300 while Trick Attack has a min potency 240, a max of 400, AND applies a 10% increased damage debuff on the foe. In the preliminary notes I believe it read Sneak Attack having a max of 500 potency which, although still not as good as Trick Attack, did lend itself to certain situations better than Trick Attack. I fully understand things change but that just seems like a rather poor design choice since as it is I honestly don't even see much of a point in having these two skills if one is going to pretty much always be absolutely undeniably better.

He hasn't noticed yet because he's having fun for once and I don't want to spoil it with even a little bad news. Even though I know he'd never really use Sneak Attack because he's a team player but I know it'll irk him just because the skill is so useless. Was there a legitimate reason behind this?

Yeh I noticed this also, with 300 potency and sharing its cooldown with trick attack, it serves no purpose at all really other than doing solo stuff. Even then with everyone doing fates at the moment to level rogue, everything dies quick enough as it is.

Is it just a RNG determined potency at execution or ?

I've asked myself such questions about many skills in this game, particularly when it comes to cross-class skills. So many of them seem completely pointless and redundant. For example, DPS classes getting access to enmity-generating skills from tank classes. Or, as a WHM, I can use Physick and Ruin from Arcanist -- but there is no reason I would ever want to. Physick is literally the exact same spell as Cure, except that my Cure spell has traits that make it better.

The 300 potency is without the shadowstalker trait you get at level 32. The trait says it only increases movement speed, however when I checked Sneak Attack after I got to Level 32 the Potency now says it does 500.

This is what I was thinking because most of the prelim. notes already took the traits into account but as you said, it didn't say so I couldn't assume it did. Good to hear.
