Recruitment Hat

I have recently come into the game and community via an invite from my friend which states I was to gain a hat to help level up to Lv 20. However when I popped his recruitment code in I have yet to obtain this in my mail, even after setting up a subscription so I'm unsure if I'm missing something on my end as the recruitment code was accepted.

You get the item once you pay for one month's subscription

And if you pay 3 months, your friend gets a chocobo you can ride with him upon paying for that time.

Which is a little unfortunate if you're paying via credit card. Your card only gets charged once the 30 days that came with purchase of the game are up. So you cannot pay for the sub until then, and therefore cannot get your bonus item until then. Unfortunately, most players will be past level 20 at least on their first class by then. Well, at least it can still be useful if you're adding additional classes or additional characters later.

If paying with a game time card, on the other hand, I think those can be added at any time, even when your sub isn't due for renewal. If so, that should allow getting the bonus items sooner. At least it works that way for the regular veteran bonuses, and I'd assume these referral bonuses work the same way.
