Coil Gear and Tome Gear

I've read many different interviews and looked at different suggestions regarding coil iLV vs tome iLV. It seems many raiders believe coil gear should be the best. I raid a lot myself and to an extent I share the same sentiment. Coil gear should be better than normal tome gear, however I think there is a flaw on what people believe should be done. This is that the coil gear should be a high item level outright. (This could also apply to future raid gear, not just coil.)

Now I can understand the weapon being the highest item level in the game, but the armor should remain the same iLV as the tome gear. In order to make the raid gear "BiS" one of the following systems should be implemented:


1. Give a set amount of materia slots per item and disable overmelding/possibly lock out specific materia types.

A. accessories/belt have one materia slot, cannot meld vit.
B. Hands/feet/head have 2 slots
C. Body/pants have 3
D. Weapon has 2 (since it is already a higher iLV)

2. Other option is to give gear set bonus for collecting the whole left side and one for the whole right side.


Thoughts? Trolls? Insults? Post below.

I think they're avoiding adding materia because then rmt can sell Gil and people will get materia, but that's moot because novus weapons, so I say go for it. Would prefer the boost for having the set though. Even though it'd be near impossible to get with weekly lockouts, coil is opening up in 2.45 so that you can do it again and again to get the drop you're waiting for (though just once per week). If they go the materia route, they'd probably argue that some elitists won't allow people with the perfect materia meld in their group but this won't really be the case.

I say sure, especially to gear set bonus. It can be something minimal too, and at best it can be something unique. Tanks can get 1% faster hp regen, mages 1% mp regen! and tp users 1% faster TP regen. It hardly does anything but it's a boost to satisfy the min/maxers

If I recall they were making it sound that when you clear with your group originally that is the only chance you have to get loot. Then when you help others they have a less chance to get loot. Thus making it so you cannot "farm" all week for a particular piece. Who knows until they actually do it.
