Is FFXIV up against the clock?

With a certain major game going into Beta as of 10am PST how many will continue to give FFXIV a fighting chance? I want the game to succeed i really do but overall the updates are slow and the Dungeons just do not provide enough of a challenge. No Other methods of transportation, grinding is still not that fun, etc etc

This game has a lot to overcome but with Blizzard now pushing its next major release can FFXIV overcome the odds? Or will it now be a ticking time bomb with only a possible few months left to recover.

Since this thread is not really taking the direction i was looking for let me modify the post to say how many of you are interested in Diablo III, and with it going into Beta now will you start looking more in that direction, or with the current changes to the game post 1.18 is it enough for you to see SE is making changes and believes in the game.

No not a doomsday thread it is a serious legitimate question. People have always spelled the release of Diablo III as a possible down for FFXIV but we know what they have planned and is that enough to save the game even tho they still have yet to address major issues such as LS management and the horrid Billing system.

Hell look at how fast your LS blew through Dungeons you pretty much had everything figured out and everyone geared in under a week.

FFXIV has been "On a clock" sense the launch failed really. They can't just bide there time forever I think we all know that. There will be a point where they are going to have to say.

We can make it profitable or we can't. There is still a good ammount of time before that happens and the exact date will be up to SE not any other company to decide.

Yes we got through it fast, we prepared for 2 weeks to be able to do it.

As for all of us geared? Hardly.

It takes a lot of runs to get what you want from there. Especially if you have more than 1-2 jobs at 50.

Plus getting the "time" chest is a bit rough. Even for our group.

One mistake is a failed run. So, getting everyone a "Bow" is going to take some time....

I'm confused. Which game is bringing the downfall of XIV this week? So far, since release, it's been WoW:Cataclysm, Rift, TERA, Diablo III, GW2, and SW:ToR. Cataclysm came out, XIV is still here. Rift came out, XIV is still here. Can you haters make up your mind, so we all know what to tag threads with?

I think FFXIV attracts a different audience from games like D3. Honestly FFXIV's strength will be as a console MMO. Further its story-heavy while D3 is more about grinding than it is about in depth stories.

I think Star Wars will be its main testing ground. Its similar to FF as it is a story-heavy mmo, and it seems to be better in almost all aspects. If FFXIV is still successful after that i think it will be fine.

LOL I purposefully left the name of the game out because i did not want it to become the focus of the thread, but if you must know Diablo III went into beta this morning. This thread has nothing to do with hate hell look at my past posts if you must I have 3 of the most commented on threads and have been nothing but supportive of this game. This thread is about the legitimacy of the potential for the game now to never recoup its playerbase due to a now 3-5 month clock for Diablo III official release.

Please keep this thread on topic as to whether or not you still believe the current roadmap is enough for the game to succeed or if SE now has to be more aggressive.

Diablo 3 will undoubtedly pull players away.
