I was wondering about server transfers so I'll list them below
1. how long does the transfer take?
2. if you have the name locked in on the other server could I just delete it to keep the name?
3. if the server is under character creation restrictions during peek hours can I still transfer there while its lifted?
I think that's it.
From my exp with transferring
1: Usually within minutes (1-2) depending on time of day you do the transfer.
2: Delete the character before trying to transfer so the named is free'd up. Mogstation can be slow at times realizing the name has been deleted
3: Yes
1, the transfer should be immediate, but you will have to quit your fc and make sure you don't have anything listed on the markets, etc. before doing the transfer.
2. If you have your name reserved on the new server you should be able to delete the character holding the name and transfer afterwards. If you plan on changing your name, just don't delete the character and it'll force you to name change when you transfer your main to that server.
3. Yes, if there are restrictions on the server you should be able to wait till off hours and transfer then, the restrictions will be lifted. Depends on the server as to how much trouble you'll have finding a good time though. Some of the more popular ones tend to be pretty crowded up into the wee hours of the morning. But it's possible.
so it happens immediate? cause i would hate to delete the character with the same name and someone else grab it.
It should. Like the person above me said, it may take a couple minutes for the game to realize the name isn't taken anymore, and it might take a min or two for the transfer to go through depending on when you do it, but you should be good. If it's not too common a name you shouldn't have anything to worry about.
There is a small chance that someone may be able to take the name during your transfer request and getting on the server. Being you have to delete the character 1st before initiation the transfer request. Mog Station can be slow at times to recognize that the name has been deleted and is free for use so your account doesn't get flagged where you have to change your name when the transfer is finished.
