Gardening "fumes" for crop doing poorly not showing

I play on PS3 and PC and I noticed today while having mine and my boy friends accts logged in i was able to see the purple fumes from his plants on the PS3 (my acct) but was unable to see them on the PC on his acct. He tried on the PS4 and still could not see them. Then i logged into PC and I could not see them then on my acct. I have seen them on the PC before but I am wondering if this is a new bug. Please help!

I water (tend) both gardens everyday so I am unsure why they were in poor condition. I am just lucky I was on PS3 or I could have lost them.
