black mage spells
Okay im just wonder why the hell aero and water cant be crossclassed to black mage im pretty sure in every other final fantasy whms couldnt even get it they had dia for attacks and holy magic not elemental magic thats what the black mage was for and honsetly ... i hope we blms get aero and water spells in the future.

IMO there's not really a need for this since SE has chosen to ignore elemental affinities when it comes to magic attacks in this game. I'm not realky sure how other elemental magic would fit into the BLM rotation, aside from just being substitutes/stronger attacks for the spells we already have. If you're thinking DoTs, run a SMN.

no was talking about as dmg things to add onto the black mages rotation and its not cuz the elemental affinities id like to use water magic for combat however i rlly dont wanna be a whm because i hate holy classes and abilitys with a passion :P and i do run a smn i have been and will be until the realse of ninja im doing smn straight cuz ive become boored of the blms rotation

Lore-wise, I don't see how they would give BLM access to water/air spells. Gravity spells though...
-
meha giving them spells dosnt effect the lore how they create the story of it is another case
-
They have to come up with a reason for nature (I forget what it's called) to want to give power to THMs.
-
It would be a huge dps loss for black mages to have these abilities. The only possibility of a benefit would come if they were off global cooldowns, and even then its not really an ideal scenario. Save these sorts of ideas for a job like redmage!

I don't suppose it should pose too big a threat to the lore if BLM had access to water and aero spells. I at least don't remember anything in the BLM lore that dictated you could only use fire, ice, and thunder, and of course we can use cure/ physic. What bit of the conjurer lore I know shouldn't strictly prevent it, though I haven't gone past 15 there. That's beside the point though, really, since these spells would add nothing to a BLM's arsenal.
Not having an elemental wheel, while perhaps boring visually since you only use 3 elements, allows for better gameplay and a lot less skill bloat I think. Part of me dreads the level cap increase simply because I'll need to incorporate more skills into my hotbars, a situation that would be much worse if BLM had multiple relevant spells for every element. If any particular element was definitively stronger than any other (as was the case in FFXI) then we'd simply be in this situation anyway, but with several nearly extraneous skills.

In FF where all 6 elements appeared BLM only got all of them in 1 game. FFXI. Their bread and butter has historically been Thunder/Fire/Blizzard. In the 1 or 2 games where they had access to Tornado and Quake they weren't functioning as regular DPS abilities. Quake was Death and Tornado was a move that lowered HP to 1.
Historically WHM has had access to the Aero line of spells. If you look at casting animations you'll see in FFXIV that the healing magic is wind-based and cleansing magic is water-based as well.
The reason why it won't work lore-wise is because the elements of Water, Wind and Earth are summoned from outside. Conjurers are given the ability to use them by interacting with the elementals. The elements of Fire, Lightning and Ice are summoned from within and Thaumaturges are able to access them by using their own aether which is magnified by the gem in their weapon.

It actually used to be Conjurer that had all of the elemental spells back in 1.0. Thaumaturge used to carry Bio, Dia, etc. Conjurer was the class that had access to nature and the elements.
When they revamped the classes to introduce the job system and combos, the elemental spells got split up. Both CNJ and THM basically switched roles and were completely changed. Conjurer became more healer, but kept Wind/Water/Earth because lore-wise it was the mage that was attuned to the natural elements. Thaumaturge got the destruction spells and lost its light/dark attributes in order to serve as the base class for BLM.
Tl;dr: I think this is all a result of the arguably strange changes made to the classes when they introduced jobs.
On a side note, I miss the old THM.
