Perhaps this is a silly question but when I am selling something through my retainer, I\\'m holding r1 for ages to get to the price i want to sell at. Is there a faster way of setting price as in a way of typing it in?

The d-pad. Press left and right to move from one digit to the next, then up and down to change that digit. For example, to sell for 10,000 gill, you'd press left four times (to get to the 10k spot), then up once, then L1 to chop off the single gil. (Edit: I think L1 would do it? You might have to press right to get back to the ones spot first. Dunno, been a long time since I did it this way.)
Or just use the keyboard to type in the price. If you don't already have a keyboard, buy a cheap one, because chat.
Ah thank you. I will try later when home :)
I have a small keyboard but unfortunately I find it hard to use with the keys being made of rubber oops! I will invest in a decent one :)
You have to be in a different edit mode as well. (I think it's the X select on the controller to go to the mode Bixby described and O to go to the other mode where you adjust up/down with the R1/L1 buttons, or maybe the other way around. Can't quite remember without being at my game machine to check it.) At any rate, when the numbers are in a green font, it's set to adjust with the directional button for each digit position, and when the numbers are in a white font, it's set to adjust one at a time with the R1/L1 buttons.
This works anywhere you enter numbers: setting Market Board prices, selecting item quantity from NPC vendors, selecting number of items or gil to transfer between inventory and retainers or between inventory and FC chest, etc.
