The generic dungeon theme has been answered in two or three live letters now, they won't change old dungeons and only certain new dungeons will have a looping theme.
As for the battle theme I don't know if they gave an answer to this, but sooner than later they will add an option to disable it.
I hope it's sooner. There's nothing more obnoxious than doing my daily roulette and getting filtered into a low level dungeon with that horrible looping battle theme. I turn the speakers off now. I never thought I would ever have to do that with a game that bore the name Final Fantasy, but there it is.
+1. I already dislike running lower level dungeons because I can't use any of my skills. The boring music makes it ten times worse.
Another reason I love XI and 1.x - It'd get repetitive (what doesn't?) but at least they had separate themes for each dungeon/region and such.

This was the old Dungeon battle theme (Open World Dungeons.)
I wish they would let us take off our soul crystals when we are filtered into lower dungeons. When I run as warrior I sure do miss some of those cross class skills I had equipped as a marauder. Higher level dungeons I don't because the warrior skills are superior, but lower leveled ones? Let me run as the lower level class.
Even in 1.x every instanced dungeon used the same music.

As for the dungeon music, before you all pass judgement, earlier FF games were exactly the same - older FF games just used the same battle music throughout the entire game in random battles fought in dungeons and the overworld.
Really, the Promise of Plunder isn't that bad, and most dungeons don't even have music, save for a short intro theme. Even FFXI's many varied tracks was all smoke and mirrors - it basically came down to one boring generic battle theme after another - arguably the first really decent battle theme in FFXI was Awakening, and that was a boss theme!
But we all have different tastes in music, so take what I said with a grain of salt. Personally I think Soken is doing an excellent job as composer/sound director for the game, even if he has been given to going a little too experimental, but at least he is listening to feedback and acting on player requests. I just hope he continues to add more missing 1.0 tracks into ARR (like Navigator's Glory and Piece of Mind (sic)).
The battle theme is very annoying, I would love to listen to the ost of the areas I am playing in instead of the battletheme everytime I get into a fight. :( Please let us turn it off!
