Skipping phases

Hi, I have heard it is possible to skip phases due to damage done on a boss (depending on you gear etc)

How does that effect a run. Does the phase you skip through still go off and do damage, but the HP of the mob still go down or does that stop at that point so the Phase can go off? (like Garuda's abilities is the best I can think of)

Skipping phases means whatever mechanics the boss was going to do are missed. A perfect example of this in Brayflox HM, at the end boss if you do enough damage you can kill him before he launches the big super bomb.

A skip usually involves triggering an HP dependent phase change that negates a time based one. One of the best examples is Garuda EX. There is a mechanic that is pushed so often a lot if people probably don't even realize it's there. The first mechanic is a jump and land North for Mistral Shriek. The second mechanic of that phase is actually a second jump, this time with a landing to the East and another Mistral Shriek. Even back at 2.1 launch a lot of groups pushed enough damage to trigger phase 2 (sisters) before that East jump.

Okay so it is possible to DPS a mob and skip all phaeses (depending on how much DPS you do to it) Sounds good, basicly you end up out classing the person, I understand the point of mechanics and some of them are great but some of them are HORRIBLE (Brayflox anyone) lol. I think i still have to do that on hard though haha.

Phase skipping can have negative affect as well, (e.g. SCOB T2, Ramuh EX) where some mechanics correspond with another, but gets skipped because of the dps. You will find your party wanting to stop dps until the second part occurs.

Note: Sometimes Bosses have a set rotation that has to finish before a phase change can happen as well. T5 and T6 are prime examples.

You won't ever skip every phase, because the difference in phases tends to be incredibly large amounts of HP. But skipping can do a lot of neat little things. Levi EX, for example, can be pushed hard enough to not do the majority of his dives. Some are mandatory (the ones after adds, and the ones that trigger the converter/Tidal Wave sequence) but a lot of other dives are just filler that can be removed from the fight with good DPS.

Usually messes up the mechanics and wipe the party.

Yah some pushes, like Titan EX phase changing when boulders fall, can make it difficult to surivive and some, like Ifrit EX, cause the mob to insta-enrage.
