I know I can't be the only one that finds this restriction annoying. I like to type a lot to get my thoughts and opinions out. I hit 1500-2000 characters. I feel like I'm making myself look stupid for not being able to explain using my normal method.
Removal would be preferred, but it should at least be 10K characters.
There is a workaround, though I don't know how effective it would be if posting from mobile...
1. Open notepad or other word processing program
2. Type out your complete thought
3. Open thread on forum with a single placeholder word as the only post
4. Click the edit button
5. Copy your whole dissertation from steps 1 and 2 and paste into the forum
6. Look on in awe as you've broken the 1k limit.
I know it's not the most convenient method and not exactly what you asked for, but it is there.
Or, as an alternative to above, if you find you've typed too much:
1) Select all of your text
2) Copy it
3) Delete enough to fit and submit
4) Hit edit
5) Delete everything and paste in your full version
If you're planning on writing a dissertation, keeping it in a separate file is a great idea. But for those occasions where you write 1021 words or something like that, the main idea is that edited posts let you break the 1k limit.
