MATERIA suggestion

the materia system reminds me of enchanting From Elder scrolls oblivion. Maybe they can make a visual effect on the gear.

Ex. lets say I use fire materia on my lance, maybe the lance can have a slight flame to it and the intensity of the flame can vary depending on what grade materia it has installed. what do u think.

Reminds me of Lost Odyssey how equipped Elemental Rings did the same thing. There was a visible elemental aura around the weapon.

I'd rather have them keep the over-the-top fantasy to a minimum.

The game isn't all gritty, realistic fantasy but not everyone has to glow either.

However, on very few items a small effect like this would be neat.

I don't like the idea of glowing, unless they are done in a very detailed and specific way like Lightsaber from SW or Force Weapons from WH40K. I certainly don't want everything glowing in rainbow colour, because most likely you don't insert only one Materia into one Item.

I think SE would know not to make a Bright light saber light bulb weapon. But atleast a small radiance of the element depending on the intensity of the materia.

Perhaps something like the Red Queen from DMC4?~
I think it would be cool under certain weapon skills.
It would take the beneficial element from your weapon.
I.e. Fire, and your animation would flourish a flame.

Perhaps something understated like a colored gem (perhaps it pulses slightly, representing the life-force / attachment put into it by the creator of the materia) near the grip of the weapon, or somewhere appropriate on armor?

It reminds me a bit of the colored gems on the sylphs, which give a clue as to the elemental affinity for that particular sylph.

Something similar here would be an in-game visual clue as to the materia-type slotted into item.

This is going to turn into another "Glow vs Aura vs Subtle vs F OFF DAMMIT!!" thread, I can see it now... lol

The dev team has already spoken on this issue. They have very clearly said that glowing/auras/etc., will be kept to a minimum and reserved only for very rare occasions, basically that such effects stand out so much they should be used accordingly.

Only if I can turn my Miqo'te into a modern day Lite-Brite.
