Simple thought. i have a decent rig, 8500+ score on the bench on high settings, but it seems i get some bad lag when zoning to hunt zones and i hardly ever get to see an S rank anymore.
think getting an SSD would help?

Processer? SSD will only help loading into zones. It does minimal for loading on screen when in zone. Lag is ping related when in zone.
If you can afford an SSD then I highly recommend getting one. Windows boots in seconds. It will help with loading certainly but wont eliminate it due to server communication. There are two parts to the loading screen: loading the required data files from mass storage and communicating with the servers. Often it's a case of the servers being too slow to send you the data even if you have a good connection.
Thanks,
I have an AMD FX6300 6 Core
An SSD will help a lot with the "pop in" effect you tend to get in MMO's. When the server and your PC know something is there, but the HD takes a few milliseconds to load the graphics for it then "pop" it shows up on screen.
With the near zero access time of an SSD, it really cuts that down.
Whether it will help with the zerg around a hunt mark.... thats determined by a lot of other factors, esp the game deciding which things to cull at a given time. I still dont think SE has it figured out right that mobs should be getting priority in rendering.
Overall though, an SSD is one of the biggest overall performance boosts you can make in a modern PC. Just get a decent brand (Samsung, Intel, Crucial) and avoid the bargain ones (Sandisk, etc).
SSD will definitely help with zone load time. There's lots of youtube comparison videos out there. A 3 second difference doesn't seem like much, but when you are zoning a few hundred times in a day it starts to add up. I use SSD on both PC and PS4 (previously on PS3 as well) and it's a pretty noticeable impact. Just keep in mind a few things:
SSDs cost quite a bit more, and are generally smaller in space... which means if you got other games to play you are going to end up playing shuffle a lot with your digital content.
In my personal experience managing an IT dept for a company with 500+ machines, SSDs have a higher failure rate than traditional drives. Not like permanently broken mind you, usually corrupt file system which requires refomatting/reimaging/reinstalls.
It will help with loading zones, but it isn't going to effect much else. You won't get less pop in & out at hunts/odin/behemoth, and it will not effect other lag sources much.
Still worth it IMHO.
Zone loading - yes
Pop in and actually seeing S ranks - Nope. SE needs to make monsters a priority in object loading instead of x number of objects in relation to the camera. Especially since everyone else will be stupid and run right into the S rank thinking their character being closer will help
Once you start using SSDs, there's no going back. They're worth every penny. :)
I've never had this problem since they fixed loading priority of creatures.
It will help with load times, not with S rank visibility that is a bug that is going to be fixed in 2.38.
