It's the free week log in. We have a bunch of people who don't pay for subscriptions getting free access. They're clogging up the servers. I know it sucks, but it should pass before next week. It's set to end this friday :/
Free log in through Sept 1
Nice not only bots and spammers clogging servers so its hard to make a new character now for a week free(loader) logins interrupt my play.
How about a free week for paying customers as an apology for this log jam.
I also have the same problem, it is usually during the prime time hours.
I contacted SE and they said "go to http://portforward.com/ and follow the instructions"
The problem is, I'm not authorized or don't have access to our router. You need to configure your router for this process.
Those are the correct steps, even from a networking perspective. If you don't have access to that, you're SOL on more than just this game. You should try asking them to reset it, whoever does have access to it.
And yeah, RussellSR, I'd say almost 3 times more people just taking up space :/

Only happens with one of my characters, after many back-and-forths between my ISP and SE support, I have determined that it isn't the ISP. It has happened on all three of the WiFi's I have tried to make sure all the ports were open. Its unfortunate because I was gonna play to try and figure out if I would resub but I would really like to be able to play my main. SE support suggested I just played my alt and wait, but It seems I cannot connect no matter what time of day it is, maybe I've just been unlucky but I have no issues with my other character, guess its just whatever port my character is assigned to is too congested.
in a lot of cases it isn't your ISP that is having trouble, but rather the ISP they've partnered with for peering and/or transit to get you into/across Canada and to SE's ISP (Ormuco).
In the last two months, it has switched between Level3 and TATA as the most reported ones having issues from the South East corridors. This is something your ISP can look into for you if you send their Tier3 techs tracerts to the server IP's your game client actually uses.

Random disconnects last week, usually recovered shortly after. Ultimately corrected by ISP altering who I peered with (currently Cogent out of Atlanta).
