Scholar - High Allagan vs Novus, while maintaining accuracy, is it really worthwhile?

I'm currently running http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/NJ9S
Which allows me:
- under Apkallu: 559 mnd, 535 crit, 460 accu, 371 pie, 269 det
- under lavatoad: 520 crit, 473 accu

This level of pie is comfortable and I want to, at the minimum, maintain 451 accuracy for T7. T9 will be less reliant on healer dps once our dd start getting their upgrades, and so that's a flexible point (although Savage coil may prove it necessary again).


Weapon damage is king; I think this is universally accepted.
However, because Novus is the only source of fat accuracy for a healer which allows us to minimally gimp ourselves to hit cap, removing the 44 accuracy with the gain of the HA book is also removing a ton of mainstat & det through the introduction of additional i90 parts, if we want to maintain that accuracy.

The least wasteful path for HA looks to be this: http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/NJAE
- under Apkallu: 551 mnd, 451 accu, 604 crit, 244 det, 394 pie
- under lavatoad: 465 accu, 588 crit (no longer capping t9)
Some of the det loss can be mitigated by overmelding detIVs instead of vitIVs, but I wanted to future proof for Savage coil, and am not particularly interested in the cost associated with CritIV, DetIV, DetIV, AccuIV, AccuIII overmelds, when tcob is relatively not that far away.

The extra pie feels like wasted stats as I've no mana issues with my current amount.

So, with all that said & done, is the 2 wdmg gain still worthwhile when it's associated with a loss of 8 mnd + 25 det?

I'm of the opinion that because raw healing output isn't as relied upon in scob (i was i88 when we first cleared T7 for example), upgrading to HA book may be crippling myself for a very slight healing increase after the 8+25 is factored in. But I'd like to hear your thoughts on it too.

2 wdmg = 17 mnd.
3 det = 1 mnd

Thus you're comparing ~17 mnd value on HA build vs ~16-17 on Novus build.

It's a wash. That said, if you're gearing this much for acc you should optimize a little better. The most optimal is hands/feet/1ring with Lava Toad Legs assuming HA and all other slots being i110. Unless you already have that 2nd i90 accessory made from that HA build, I guess.

I currently have the emerald ring from the 1st link, haven't melded a necklace yet.

The neck slot has no natural crit on it, nor natural vit, and loses 1 less mnd/acc than the boots do when downgrading to i90, which is why I'd considered it.
However, the boots would let me safely cap with 550 mnd, 470 accu, 582 crit, 265 det, 382 pie, so I guess there's that. Thanks, I sort of wrote it off I guess.

Do you have a link for the det conversion? People keep giving values that range from 3:1 to 7.5:1, and so I'm uncertain.

This is an interesting topic I gave some thought when I got my HA book like 14-15 weeks ago but had the Omnilex Atma laying around and no motivation to get an Animus. Then Novus came and I was considering doing it, however...the HA book with a few i90 slots optimally melded with ACC/DET/CRIT (or VIT if needed and on the accessory side - only for Savage) will triumph over a full-on ACC Novus.

I have the following setup (no WHM buffage):

Without food: 77 MD, 549 MND, 577 CRIT, 275 DET, 448 ACC 387 PIE.
With Apkallu Omelette: 77 MD, 549 MND, 604 CRIT, 275 DET, 459 ACC, 387 PIE.
With Lava Toad: 77 MD, 549 MND, 588 CRIT, 275 DET, 470 ACC or 471 ACC (I honestly don't remember - on my cell now), 387 PIE.

So basically, as you can see, compared to your build: a lot more CRIT, a bit more PIE, 10 behind on MND, 6 above on DET, 2 more WD which more than makes up for that 10 MND loss (and also, +6 DET). I like your idea and the build and I would say go for it if you have the time and will, but you can dance around this with the HA book as well.

That being said, the setup you see above was made before the i90 accessories were released and while still good, it is for Normal T6-9 cruising (constituting of Saurian Gloves, Saurian Belt and Saurian Boots) wherein I lose some defense bonuses and vitality. If you want to upkeep max defense bonuses and vitality, it becomes a different thing to an extent. This only matters in Savage and I use a slightly different setup there, wherein I just have T6+7 ACC caps met and VIT melded into my i90 accessories and otherwise-i110 gear.
