Moonfire pun - the bonb dance

I'm pretty sure SE snuck in a pretty bad pun with our new dance... anyone else see it?

The Theory:

• The bomb dance is a pun on the bon dance.

Supporting "evidence":

• The most commonly celebrated date for the Bon Festival is around August 15th.
• The kana ん (ン) is normally pronounced "n" but is pronounced as "m" when it comes before a "b". ボン + ブ = "bombu"
• The Bon Festival is a family reunion festival. It is a celebration of ancestors where our Moonfire Faire this year is a celebration of upcoming generations.
• The Bon Festival typically ends with floating lanterns down rivers to symbolize the ancestor spirits returning to the underworld. The Moonfire Faire events, again focusing on upcoming generations, end with honoring the passing of those who died young.
• The bon dance differs in each region but the moves generally show motions done by the workers in that region (pushing mining carts, rowing, harvesting rice). The Moonfire Faire has us demonstrating actions we do as adventurers.

Yeah it looks like the Obon Dance from Karate Kid part 2.

Actually the whole things looks like the last scene in the movie, clothes and all, so I would have to say yes, its the Obon.

Considering the festival ALSO takes place during the real world Obon holiday, yeah I don't think this is a stretch or coincidence at all.
BTW that's why there's no maintenance or patch this week: Everyone at SE Japan has the week off.

It's pretty clear that this is a Japanese festival.

Yeah, I have pictures of people performing the Bon Odori from the Obon festival in San Francisco. I should have recognized it immediately.

I feel ashamed that it took me so long to figure out the joke.

Huh. And here I thought it was something Polynesian. First time I started doing the emote, my reaction was "I feel like I should be singing Aloha Oe right now."

From Wikipedia - The "Bon season" is an important part of the present-day culture and life of Hawaii. So it is not surprising it would look familiar.

It is this month. It technically is all month because it's celebrated at different times in different regions.
