I always start typing with either /a /p etc and it always </flag> first and ruins it most of the time.
I always wondered what action I am doing to make that "<flag>" appear in my chat log. Must be a mis-click I am doing but never found out which exact action it is that I am doing. I only know it is annoying. What is this <flag> doing anyways?
<flag> is for sharing a map location in chat. You get a flag on your map if you Ctrl+Right-click a spot on it (or for controller, move the crosshair to a spot and press R1), or if you click on a map link someone else puts in chat with either <flag> or <pos>. Though I'm not sure if clicking on someone else's link makes <flag> start popping up in chat the way creating your own map flag does.
I haven't spent time trying to make it stop, because I've never noticed it refusing to go away like that. I think the only time I've had it pop up automatically is when I've had the map open right after creating or clicking a map link. Try cycling your map (open/close or close/open).
^^^aaah this could very well be it. I only knew <pos> for sharing a location by coordinates.
Thanks for posting this...just started playing 2 months ago and have been having the same problem...This thread gave me the answer to fix it!!
This what helped me figure out why I was having the same problem that the poster of this thread was...Everytime you place the flag on the map it then adds <flag> to the text field for your chats.
I happen to use the flag on the map all then time when traveling around the world. If you don't remove the flag marker from the map after arriving at your destination then the <flag> remains in your text field of your chat and subsequently will be there whenever you go to start typing...Not knowing this mechanic about the the flag marker would make it feel like the <flag> would appear for no reason to anyone who frequently uses the flag marker on the map when navigating around the world.
Thanks for posting...even though this was 7 years ago LOL
Agreed. I really wish there was a way to make it not automatically put the flag into the command line when creating flags.
