Making Militia & AF for the first time

Hi guys!

I'm looking for help with a macro (well, skill rotation, I should say) to make HQ green gear for the first time. I recently got all DoH to 50. I have the Patrician's set and my accessories are pretty good I think. There's lots of great info on making items when you're all geared and max melded! But can I please get some info on making stuff just BEFORE that point? :D

Should I start with the offhand tools or the clothes?

A friend of mine made me the WVR tailcoat as encouragement, so that's a boost for that class. :o

You can make HQ AF gear without melded Patricians, using only NQ materials. Use this rotation. It's perfectly doable with either HQ 48 off hand tools or NQ 55 tools.

* Comfort zone
* Inner Quiet
* Steady Hands 2
* Touch x 5 (replace with hasty touch if not enough CP)
* Manipulation
* Steady Hands 1
* Ingenuity 2
* Innovation
* the-next-level-touch-whatever-it's-called
* greater strides
* byregots
* perfect synth x4

You'll need about 350-ish CP. I used HQ fish soup, easy to make with full patricians's set.

Also, skip the head gear. Not necessary.

I recommend starting with Tailor -> Leather -> Goldsmith -> blacksmith.
Tailor, so you can make the AF for all the other jobs.
Leather, so you can make the AF for all the other jobs.
Goldsmith, for the jewellery you'll eventually want.
Blacksmith, for all the offhand tools.

If you're having problems meeting the requirements, just make an NQ55 spinning wheel, that should get you started. Once you have your HQ AF, you can do fine with HQ48 tools. I may have used FC actions, I don't really remember.

Wait a minute, how did you get those stats with this gear? I logged out on GSM last night. I think it's pretty average stat-wise for my DoH classes. I have:
281 Craft
273 Control
310 CP

There's a big difference...

I'm not keen on using the mats needed to make a NQ green tool I'll use once. :( Seems like a real waste.

So is it technically impossible (outside of getting really lucky) to make HQ green DoH items without already having the green gear?

That was probably with the militia tool. You're are still perfectly fine. Your HQ% goes down to 84%, but anything above 80% is usually HQ. You can raise your chances by using HQ materials too. It'll be a gamble with the one-star ones but you should be able to HQ the other stuff like cloth and threads fairly easily.

GSM for jewelry, then WVR, LTW, BSM, ARM for your AF gears.

All you need is one set of jewelry as they are shared by all the classes, and you will need to get your CP to 345 ASAP to start using those 100% HQ rotations.

Don't follow strict oders/rotations for crafting unless you know you can create HQ even in the worst case.

Your most important skills if you want to make HQ are:
Byregot's Blessing
Steady Hand I/II
Innovation
Ingenuity II
Great Strides
Comfort Zone
Tricks of the Trade
Waste Not I/II
Careful Synthesis II
Hasty Hands
and of course Inner Quiet

What you want to reach, if you only have NQ materials, is a ~13+% HQ chance through Basic Touch/Hasty Hands before finishing with a buffed Byregot's Blessing.
That's usually enough stacks of Inner Quiet to get to 100%.

The easiest way to craft HQ is to use HQ materials and CP buff food. If you have alot of misses you need more craftsmanship.

Start with Comfort Zone (*Tricks of the Trade if available) -> Inner Quiet (T*) -> Steady Hands II (T*).
You can then go the CP intensive, but more save route, of using Basic Touch+Manipulation/Waste Not, or what I prefer, the Hasty Hands method.
For that I use Waste Not II and then Hasty Hands till Steady Hands II wears off. Reapply Steady Hands II and continue with Hasty Hands till Waste Not II wears.
You can continue to use Basic Touch or Hasty Hands till Steady Hands II wears off.
Just make sure you have enough durability left for 4 actions and enough CP for Great Strides+Byregot's+Ingenuity II+Steady Hands (110CP).

Using Hasty Hands is more risky than Basic Touch, but it saves you alot of CP which you can use for a finisher.

You will need Ingenuity II and 3 Careful Synthesis II to finish the synth.
And you want to use Byregot's Blessing with Steady Hands (to prevent failing) and Great Strides (can be further buffed by using Innovation and IngenuityII).
What you'd like to see is a good or excellent condition before using Byregot's Blessing.

So you start with Steady Hands+Great Strides. If good/excellent -> Byregot's
If not -> Innovation -> If good/excellent -> Byregot's
If not -> Ingenuity II -> Byregot's -> Careful Synthesis II x3
This gives you 3 chances to get a good/excellent condition.


EDIT:
You will get the biggest boost to your stats from a HQ offhand. So, I'd recommend starting with BSM and make the OH tools first.

I'm trying my best to use the JP website, but I've found some bugs. For 80 stuff, it seems alright, but when I asked it to help with 40 durability items, it spit out a sequence that gave me a 19% HQ. I knew that was way off, did it my 'usual' way and got 100% more than once. So... I dunno. :/ It may just be the site's clunkiness mixed with my inability to read anything.

This makes sense to me as well. A friend made me the BSM off hand tool. I made the CRP off hand so that I could make the WVR off hand which I then turned around and made the BSM pants. XD It's a start. :)
