The Ascians and the Occuria

I'm wodnering if there's a reason why the ascians are named after XII's Scions of Light? Having played XII beforehand I know that the Occuria are hellsbent in enforcing a fatalist rule with them them controlling destiny (With both the protagonists and antagonists defying it in the end). We also know the Espers from that game were involed in a war with the Occuria. The only Light Scion that rebelled was Ultima, the rest seemed to be loyal to the Occuria

This has me wondering if XIV is secretly a part of the Ivalice alliance? Are the Asceann working on behaft of the Occuria, Using Zodiark to drain Hydealyn dry of aether/mist so they can take over (and so that the Occuria would have a new world to impose destiny on or the resources to take Ivalice back)?

I can help but think that The Asceans and the Occuria are connected somehow.

It's just fanservice basically - like the Crystal Tower referencing the final dungeon from FFIII (right down to it's bosses), it is not actually FFIII's Crystal Tower, but FFXIV's own version - and as for the whole 'Eorzea=Ivalice' arguement, SE actually came out and stated clearly that is not the case during one of the previous 'Letter from the Producer Live' videos (the link seems to have disappeared, but it was formerly found at this page, but luckily I saved the actual quote:

So yeah, Eorzea/Hydealyn are not FFXII's Ivalice, FFXI's Vana'diel, FFIII's world, FFVII's Planet or any other FF world at another time period. It is it's own unique world with fanservice references to other games.

The question has been raised previously. You could be forgiven, though, as it's no doubt fallen off the front page of this section of the forums... As noted above by Enkidoh, all allusions to other FF titles are just that: Allusions. Homages. References. A wink and a nod. Can we make predictions based on what has come before in previous FF games in connections to the materials that have been appropriated by the devs for use in FFXIV? Oh hell yes. But as for Hydaelyn actually being Ivalice, Terra, Nova Crystalia, The World of Balance, etc, so on, and so forth. No. Hydaelyn is Hydaelyn. This did not stop the devs from wanting to create a very faithful adaption of FFIII's Crystal Tower in 3D using modern graphical technology. But this does not mean we are in that world, it just means that the devs really liked the Crystal Tower and thought that we'd appreciate a faithful reproduction being a part of Hydaelyn.

Okay but I need to clarify. I'm aware that Hydaelyn is a seperate world and did not imply it was a part of Ivalice.

The simple fact is that the Occuria do not exist on Hydaelyn as far as the story has developed thus far.

It's also worth noting that Ultima and Zodiark are the two Espers that did not have an alternate version for Light and Dark, they were both.

While this is mostly true, I think the introduction of XI's Shantotto and XIII's Lightning show that travel between the void to and from Hydaelyn is not only possible, but somewhat probable given enough time. I think because of that, while Hydaelyn is obviously separate, the naming influence could be, in some cases, more than just allusion.

Don't forget Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh is well known traveling the other worlds looking for Excalibur. So I agree that it's very possible for other final fantasy characters to travel to Hydaelyn. They have to be careful though not to ruin the lore of the final fantasy characters traveling here. Gilgamesh was a good addition since he fits with his lore.

Exceptions are exceptions. Gilgamesh is well-known as a canonical cross-dimensional traveler in the whole FF series. Lightning being sent to Hydaelyn as a trial by Bunivelze(sp) before beginning her journey in Lightning Returns is heavily suggested by the text of her quests. That Shantotto isn't from around here is also heavily implied. Now... DQ Online? There isn't really any justification for this whatsoever... But the final CS was priceless. Or awkward. One of the two. I hope the 1 year anniversary will allow us to participate in these one-time quests again.

Shantotto's appearance in Hydaelyn/Eorzea was explained by her comments at the end of the quest:

it's actually tied into her FFXI mini-expansion A Shantotto Ascension where she bungles a spell and is accidentally displaced from Vana'diel across dimensions - she even literally namedrops the expansion's title in her dialogue!

The lore 'explanation' for the Dragon Quest Online event is anyone's guess though.

I think the DQX quest can get away with the "they were foreigners" excuse, since all NPCs involved are playable races. The Golems though... let's just say a mage (who wanted a detailed creation) did it.
