Effective Leveling of DoH Class?

So I've been leveling both a BTN and WVR. My BTN is currently 26, and I've enjoyed it, but I decided I'd like to really get into crafting. So I've leveled my WVR up to 23. I've enjoyed it, I've made some items, and sold them and made some extra gil. But I'm really wanting to get into WVR and start making some good money, as well as being able to meld materia and repair my own gear.

So here's my question: what's the most effective and consistent way for me to get my WVR or any DoH class for that matter, up to 50? To date, I've mostly just kept at working on the Crafting log, and accepting the WVR job quests as they become available. Is this my only method to level this job? It's also getting fairly expensive. Am I TRULY better off using my BTN to gather my materials, or would it be more effective to just buy them off the market board?

Oh my, the crafting log? Well that will become expensive as well as time and inventory intensive. Leves beg to be used for crafting jobs. Turning in HQ items to a crafting leve gives absurd amounts of experience (2x normal -- with normal being much higher than for combat leves already).

Leveling BTN before WVR makes things much easier, though you may want to just go ahead and level CRP at the same time. While leveling BTN you can gather far more resources for both WVR and CRP than you will use to level both classes the same amount as you leveled BTN. Gathering for CRP is super simple as well. Just get a few stacks of every log and you're pretty much done.

Most of your exp gains come from leves. Always turn in HQ and use triple turn ins (easy to spot being that they reward you with significantly less exp -- though you get to repeat them 2 more times for the same 1 leve) if you're trying to maximize exp/ leve. I prefer courier leves since they give the most exp per item and travelling is quick and simple until level 40 (where it starts taking some time). Since you can gather your own materials, you can reduce the cost of things a lot. To avoid inventory issues, try to just gather a lot of what you will need and keep track of how much oddball stuff you might use (for instance some later WVR recipes use a single cotton ball). The only things you should need to buy on the MB are crafted items form other classes (various leathers, glues, ingots, etc.) It will be hard to HQ much on your first crafting class because you'll lack cross class skills, however saving HQ materials you gather for times when you absolutely need to HQ something (class quests) will help.

DoH is very different then combat classes, crafting needs to be level together, and even better if done with DoL classes as well.

First thing you need to do is level all of your DoH to 15, and this is when you can start to craft a decent percentage of HQ items because you will have the necessary cross class skills. HQ will benefit you when you make your own leveling gear, as well as offers much higher exp point per craft (2-300% more). This in term will save you in material as well as time.

As said from above post, do leves to get more experience bonus, and it also allows you to focus on what items to craft. All the repeatable leves asks for 3 units as turn in, and you can turn in 3 times for a total of 3 leve exps, and if you turn in ALL HQ, you gain 6x of leve exp per leve. At this rate, you will only need to do a few leves per craft before you need to move on to the next leve camp.

I second AttacKat's answer. Any reasonable profit (and XP) in crafting comes from HQ items, and for that, you'll have to rely heavily on cross-class skills, so it's difficult to succeed at leveling only one job. Definitely level everything to 15. After that, you can decide if you want to level classes to 50 one at a time, or level everything together (so you can make your own cross-class materials or share gear).

End-game, multi-star HQ crafting requires multiple level 50 classes for the skills necessary to be competitive. I recommend taking a peak at one of the many ?-star rotation guides and checking the required skills listed. But in the meantime, the lvl 15 class abilities will help tremendously while you begin your long and tedious journey.

Also, if you have no shortage of leve allowances, I recommend the "delivery" leve quests that send you to other locations. These offer less XP per leve allowance than repeatables, but highest XP per item turn-in.

Alrighty, I guess my first step will be getting everything to 15! As I'm going to main WVR first, which cross-class skills should I be on the lookout for?

Rumination, Manipulation and Careful Synth are the big ones you'll use the most, at least in my experience.

Hasty Touch and Tricks of the Trade are also very useful for early HQ success. Hasty Touch costs no CP, and Tricks of the Trade restores CP; between them, you can manage additional uses of Manipulation or Master's Mend, which translates to additional Touches for higher quality.

A word of warning about Rumination, as well - Rumination is very nice when you start out as it stores up a nice chunk of CP for you to cash in later. The unfortunate thing about it, though, is using it wipes out your Inner Quiet, meaning that any Touches you use AFTER Rumination will be crappy Touches. When I used Rumination (I don't anymore - once you get CRP to 50 to obtain Byregot's Blessing it pretty much means you'll never use Rumination again), I generally only used Synthesis steps after using it, never any Touches.

I see leves mentioned, but not GC supply missions. Check under 'Timer' to see the daily list of your-level craftable goods you can turn in for exp and GC seals. HQ gets you ~twice as much; starred items get you ~twice as much (I've gotten nearly 200k exp turning in HQ starred items at the higher levels). This is actually how I leveled all my DoH at once. Also, if you keep your crafting classes leveled together, you only need one set of gear (not tools obviously) which helps with armory chest space if that is ever a problem for you.
