Just how brutal are they? Have they been downed by BG or anyone yet? Or does anyone have some experience going in to how tough it really is? =D

So brutal no one can answer lol
I know for sure some have done T6, most don't actually care though.
Well, this post contains the differences in mechanics that people who have tried Savage Coil have seen.
...Based on that post, I don't want to go anywhere near Savage Coil with a 5-yalm stick, that stuff looks way too crazy for me.
I'd be surprised if all that many people really do them. The overwhelming majority of the players haven't done the first 5 coils as it is, let along the second set and then brutal after them.
And honestly, what's the point? To get slightly better gear that'll be pointless next patch? Meh.
Everything doesn't have to be about gear, some people simply enjoy the challenge. The hardcore raiders in my FC have spent ridiculous hours (like 15+/day) in savage coil so far (T6 already downed, T7 close), and one went as far as saying T6 normal would be boring to do now. People like that are certainly in the minority, but Savage Coil was never meant for the majority.
That being said, I also won't be going anywhere near Savage coil. T6 damages are disgusting and T7 sounds like an absolute nightmare (as if normal T7 wasn't annoying enough).
The point isn't about the gear (to that end, the loot tables have not changed from the regular Second Coil, the only rewards for downing Savage Coil are an achievement and title, which to me would be reward enough) - it's about the challenge. The devs released Savage Coil as a test to see who would actually try it out, and if it was well received so that they might release content that is either more difficult, or a parallel line of the same instances on a higher difficulty, like Savage Coil is.
It's purely for enjoyment, completion and bragging rights.
Gives rights to ppl who want to belittle/ trashtalk non savage coilers.
Other than that there's really no need to do it.
