Ala Mhigo = Besieged

Spontaneous cooperative Zone-PVE was always one of my favorite aspects of MMOs, and the new imperial raid parties are a fun start, so I'm in no rush. But a few friends and I were mulling over the lore and when the subject of Ala Mhigo came up, we immediately all clicked with "BESIEGED!"

The Empire wiped out the city, converted its people, and forced escapees into a hidden resistance. In a future expansion, I say, "Let's take it back." We have some amazing opportunities here.

First, let's recapture the city and rebuild it. As far as zone content goes, half-destroyed cities in the middle of rising back to power are some of my favorite artistic and lore-based concepts. Anybody agree?

And afterwards? The Empire? Bring 'em on. If they want it back, they can fight us for it. Right in the streets - Al Zahbi style. Solders, Judges, Magitek machina, bring them on. Sounds like a great way to introduce some future gear, as well: save up that city's newly developed temporary currency and trade it in for swag.

If no plans have been made for expansion packs and Ala Mhigo, how's this sound? I mean, after the Umbral Era descends and the Grand Companies begin their resurgence, we have to take back Eorzea if we plan on surviving a two-front war against the scalekin and Garlemald, yes? This sounds fun.

Aren't there armies of 30+ Imperial soldiers stalking zones atm? At least, that has been word on the street since 1.18.

That was part of the inspiration, yeah. The little raid parties in exchange for deaspected crystals are really fun; I should probably make a note of that in the OP.

I do like them a lot, but the idea I'm thinking here is larger scale after expansion packs and cap raises - and localized so you know when to rush there. Perhaps via an NPC linkpearl? Show up in town as part of the storyline, get an NPC Link from them, and have it ring when there's a legion approaching, I guess?

What about if after we "retake the city" in-game event via expansion release, as time passes new content gets added to the retaken city and appears as if it's "being rebuilt". This would mean players would have to work together to fight off the Besieged enemies and the better we all do during the fights = how much damage gets done to the city. If we lose the fight we could even be pushed back out of the city and forced to re-group.

Lots of possibilities with this. I loved Besieged, I'd really enjoy seeing it redone on better technology. (I still remember the sad days of dial-up..)

Solid suggestions; reminds me a little of Assassin's Creed II. And come on, who didn't love rebuilding the city in ACII?

If the thread takes off at all, I'll keep updating and specifying the OP with well-received ideas. Player-driven content development is a little idealistic, but it can't hurt to get ideas we like together for their future reference.
