feeling sad about the economy

Not to compare ffxiv to ffxi ( I know they are two separate games, and if i wanted ffxi, i'd go back to it, etc etc)

I just feel that FFXI had a much more engaging and vibrant economy. I loved logging into whitegate or even Juno and seeing people shout for... well, everything. Teleports, item crafts, mats, anything and everything. I know that system is now outdated with the market wards and the ability to search for everything, but I surely do miss seeing people shouting for help and cooperation in their attempts to progress their characters.

I feel that there is no true incentive for farming gil in ffxiv (anyone remember spending hours NPC'ing leeches??) With all the quests dropping rare/ex items that cannot be sold, you simply farm until you get your drop and then leave that zone forever (or until another quest brings you back)

And as for crafters (aside from the ability to repair your own gear) there is no reason to level anything besides cooking. No more crafting scorpion harnesses or vermillion cloaks (facing the right direction on the right day for that theoretical .001% increase) with the hopes of getting that glorious +1 for millions of profits in Gil... All the endgame gear is obtained through hours of countless grinding and trading in ( you guessed it..) rare/ex items to a vendor...


Currently I am farming Atma's for the +2 relic weapon, and I had some ideas/suggestions that could really get the game flourishing (for both crafters and farmers).

Make the Atma drops rare, with the possibility of dropping to any lvl 50 (as long as you have the quest unlocked/ completed)

This would allow people to farm the atmas with the hopes of selling them on the broker for profits. Give them a traditional final fantasy drop rate... 1-3% so the market wouldn't get flooded, but it would give the option to farmers if they want to farm fates all day, and allow people to buy the mats on the AH if they have extra gil to blow/don't want to farm them out on their own.

My second idea: Allow all the high level gear/weapon recipes to be made by crafters... Yes, you farm all the mats, and allow a master crafter to craft your gear.. guaranteed HQ, no chances of breaking, etc just the fact that a high level crafter can craft them will be incentive for people to level crafts as there will actually be hopes of profit in the time it takes to level up a craft to 50...

Thoughts/concerns? What would this do to the "casual" gamer? They would still be able to farm their own gear and craft it if they wanted, in about the same amount of time it currently takes, there would just be the option of some open capitalism in Eorzea..

Just so you're aware; you can edit a post to bypass the character limit, that way you don't need to post multi times.

As for the topic, I have no opinion cause I never played XI, and I don't usually care about economies in MMOs.

The only reason the economy is how it is now, is because we can see the prices of items. FFXI only showed the last 10 transactions of an item. leaving to practically guess if there was a silly person who put the item up for 1 gil ( that could be a 10k+ item lol), or trying to save money based on the Price History. ( people would even go as far as going 1 gil at a time to buy the lowest price on the button LOL.)

I would like to have FFXI Economy system, so we don't have much "Under cutters". Only reason people under cut is because people know what the other people's price is. If we didn't know it would be very hard to undercut 40 people of the same item.

Yeah! Pretty much.
I feel like there needs to be almost a certain amount of playing dirty in the economy for it to properly get started up. At the moment it's from Player 1 to Player 2 and then used for whatever purpose. Y'know? It doesn't go any further than that.
