The match making system has ultimately lead to the dire state that pvp has found itself in. Pre-match making system, everyone could enjoy relatively short-queues.
After match making? It became unbearable... massive queue times for those with a higher rank. And due to this, less and less people pvp'ing, making queue times for those with lower rank also longer... as they have no one to pvp with.
I've seen low rank players go from quick queues then after a few weeks they hit the mids 20's... and their queue times become unbearable. Why do this? It's alienating a huge pvp group... the most devote pvp group at that. Those who are the most likely to be pvp'ing.. simply can't pvp much because the match-making system makes them wait endlessly.
The match-making system hasn't helped the state of pvp, it's done the exact opposite. The pvp population isn't huge, and the match making system does nothing other than force us to wait for ridiculously long times only to inevitably be paired with (the same) low ranked or high ranked players.
This has gone on for so long and it really needs to be removed. At this stage, after seeing what the match-making system has done to pvp... I think it'd be pretty hard to find someone who pvp's that would actually support keeping this system in place.
Please remove the pvp match-making system asap.

They did this so new PVP players wouldnt be absolutely curb-stomped by Rank 30+ PVP veterans in full i90 PVP gear over and over, which was the case before all these changes.
While longer queue times arent fun, getting thrown into a fight you have no chance of winning is even less fun for everyone involved.
Atleast with the PVP ranking system people who are "good" or rather "experienced" at PVP are up against other people who are equally experienced with PVP, atleast going by rank that is.
Ofcourse... PVP in a final fantasy game is terrible and shouldnt be in here just to cater to the WoW masses... -

Yes the last time I tried PvP, following the changes, I just could not get into a match. If it can't find people your rank it seems to just not match you with anyone at all, even though there are teams of different ranks waiting. Getting beat up is surely better than not being able to play.

Maybe you should not have wintrade your R40 to get more longer queue...
There was a lot of R30 @ 2.2, and 80% of them just wintrade because 10 min was too long, and now those guys are crying about 30min queue..
We got 30 min queue for months... and we were under R35 just because all other R30 were not able to just play the right way. Since i reach R35 a couple weeks ago, and since frontline details comes up, there is no way to play... only 3 people in our LS are still playing..
SE will give with frontline free xp and marks anyway... with 0 "pvp" action, run in AOE like in fate, get xp and do it again... -

They will be adding an Item Level Sync system to all PVP Match-making to help deter abuse of high item levels. However, they will unlikely ever remove the match-making process, because not everyone wants to be in an FC, so they won't have pre-made parties.
