T9: Is it possible to control who gets targeted for Stardust in P1?

First off some context:

All but me (the BRD) stack behind boss. We place meteors at 3:00, 5:00, 7:00 etc etc. Now for the question at hand. I have noticed that I can get the meteor to target me 100% (I think... read on) if one of two possible circumstances are met:

1) All PT is stacked on boss (inside her hit box???) (A similar control can be seen in T7 with Melusine in that if you have 3 ranged DPS as long as the extra ranged DPS stays in her hit box (mostly, obviously sometimes they have to move out of her hit box) they will not be targeted for Fireball)

2) I am the FURTHEST from her (basically almost touching wall)

My suspicion is its the latter circumstance. It can be messed up if someone is dodging or doesn't get back to boss in time for whatever reason but I am pretty sure this is an actual thing you can do for that first set of meteors.

So why mention this? Well for one I want to know if I am right and two its very good to know that you can keep meteors assigned to one person and rest of PT can focus on boss.

I can debunk this. We go in with two tanks, 1 melee, and 3 ranged DPS. I've seen everyone get the meteor with everyone spread out. The only person who can't get the meteor is the person currently tanking to my knowledge.

I think you you have misunderstood the context. All but me (the BRD) are stacked behind boss. I am the only one at range. If this arrangement of position is maintained it appears I can get meteor to target me every time. (1st set of meteors only)

I have experienced this on multiple occasions not just a one off and time and time again the meteor will target me if the aforementioned positions are maintained. So my thoughts are its ridiculous good luck that it targets me every time or this is an actual thing.

Also I still don't know which of the 2 circumstances I have outlined in my OP that controls this.

Its possible, T7 seems to have a similar ruling for who gets cursed voice based on distance from the boss. When my group was learning the fight, I could go to the same spot (and teammates go to roughly the same spots) every pull and go several pulls without getting a cursed voice while in those positions. But that could just be me only seeing what I wanted to see when I first noticed this.

All I know is that I rarely ever get it (DRG) and was curious if that was just RNG or if there was something affecting it.

Possibly your not getting targeted because being her hit box is part of the equation? idk

I'll continue to discuss this. It definitely can't be #2, because as I mentioned, we are all spread out, and I am closer to the middle of the room to keep FR running, and I get the meteor as well, when the ranged are all behind me. So that gets rid of #2. If your theory was correct, then the only other person who could get the meteor in your scenario is the tank when they are dropping off their "bomb" (not sure what it's called because I don't tank). I'm not sure I would want to do this strategy anyways between the "swoops" she does as well as the red beam attack could get messy if people aren't on point with coordination, but I agree that it potentially could be viable.

Ah yes I see what your saying. Ok to clarify context a little more. We have boss in dead center of arena for P1, P2 so all PT is stacked behind her there and I am the only one at range.

When I think about it the more I am convinced that it is the same rule that applies to Melusines Fireball if you are using a DPS that is extra range type e.g. BLM. So long as that range DPS remain in her hit box they can not be targeted for Fireball.

However in the case of Nel Deus Darnus it applies as long as all but one person is in her hit box. The player outside her hit box and @ X range will be Stardust target.

Melusine will prioritize ranged targets farther from her (will ignore those within melee range if applicable), which is how you make her more managable with 3-ranged setups.

As for meteors from Nael, in all my runs, feels completely random. Had a run already where the OT got picked for all 4 meteors. Wouldn't be that much of a DPS benefit if you could control them anyways.

i'm a monk and i get stardust marks from time to time. same goes for our offtank as well. i think it's random.

for t7 though, iirc fireballs only target ranged DPS classes (or just ranged, idk i'm facing melusine 90% of the time), regardless of their position. not sure if i saw a healer class get targeted by fireball.
