A Double Standard
You know, it's weird the moderators erase foul language from the forums and give a nice chat filter for the chat log... but then turn around and put this in their game...
*****
Halstein: This city and the gods've shat on me my whole life. Will you not help me, friend? Gather me, say, six of those Lassae census ledgers, and I'd be able to turn my fortunes around! Come, help a poor sod out.
Halstein: What could've possessed the bloody fool, sendin' a report to me instead of his master! Maybe I share a name with some highborn lord of Ul'dah what shits gold an' mythril! Hehehe!

Hehehe, indeed. Slight double standard here. No point in having a chat filter in the logs if the NPCs are going to swear a blue streak. Why doens't Chat Filter work on NPCs?
EDIT: This is not about who likes swear who doesn't, rating system or online interactions etc.

The game and the forum are two different things.
The game is rated T, the forum is open to whoever types in the URL.
Good point about the chat filter, though, but really, who actually keeps that turned on? :D
-
For people who keep it turned on... shouldn't it work on NPC?
-
There is a Lala NPC that says "shit gil" too lol
-
The chat filter in any game has nothing to do with the rating. "Online Interactions Not Rated" remember?
It's a simple measure to offer some degree of protection from profanity to the ones that want it. In fact, you can deactivate it.
-
No one's talking about rating. Maybe I wasn't clear in the initial post. (See Edit)
-
Fact is that it's optional, so i don't really see the problem?
-
Wow, 1.18 must have really been a fantastic patch, if this is all we have left to complain about.
Please do everyone a favor and grow up.

I've never seen an NPC use a swear word in ANY MMORPG before.
I don't care either way, I just found it to be interesting.
