many PLDs getting misleaded by bulwark CD description

just a heads up to anyone misleaded by Bulwark CD

its doesnt add actual 60% block chance on your block rate %

but it increase your actual block chance % by 60%

example

your block rate is 20%

its not like this ( 20% + 60% = 80% chance of blocking )

but its like this ( 20% + 12% = 32% chance of blocking )

if its like the 1st statement it will be OP skill ;)

Some BLMs seems to think manawall nullifies magic damage too.

The thing with these "by x%" things in this game is that sometimes it works like Bulwark and sometimes it adds the percent mentioned. Wrath stacks are an obvious example of the latter, the crit bonus is an added percent to your normal crit chance (just see how much more often you crit when Infuriated).

to be honest it wouldnt be OP if it's +60% flat, you are still affected by

1.) RNG (80% max block chance)
2.) you can only mitigate physical damage
3.) you can only mitigate frontal damage
4.) the amount of mitigation still depend on the shield you use.

It honestly feels like 80% though, whenever i have bulwark up I will block stuff coming my way.

not to mention there was a skill in 1.0 that allow 100% block chance for 10seconds, and another skill that gives you a single block that restore health on the damage you take.

Hey this is actually still misleading.

20% + 12% isn't right either.

If your block rate is 307(Levi Tidal Wave), you get a bonus 184.2 block rate- this is different from a flat percentage and how all "stat up" skills work (berserk, the skill speed arcanist and white mage buffs, etc.). Of course, this is a lot less useful knowledge than converting it to percentages. Even I'm not actually sure how much that is in terms of how much you actually block, nor am I sure if it takes parry rate into account (Which actually blocking normally does.)

But basically this means "We don't actually know how much it does" and also "The higher your block rate (and maybe parry rate) the larger benefit you'll recieve."

EDIT:
Did some extra research and dug up old data. Not sure how relevant it is:
Assuming this is right, 50 block rate = approx 3% block chance.
This one is confusing, but it shows a solid parallel to both block and parry rate scaling together, if that was ever in question.
They're both fairly old, though. A lot of theorycrafting died off shortly after launch. Hopefully it helps you out.
