Scholar: Novus, or High Allagan, which should I focus my time on?

As a Scholar, I have been wondering, which should I focus my time on obtaining, the Omnilex Novus, or the High Allagan Grimoire of Healing? In actuality the difference between the two is not all that huge in raw stat numbers.

Omnilex Novus:
75 DMG, 17 DPS, 44 VIT, 42 MND, 9 ACC as Base Stats
with a probably 44 Crit, and variables in either 31 Det or Pie depending on preference.

High Allagan:
77 DMG, 17.67 DPS, 47 VIT, 45 MND, 9 ACC, 46 Crit, 24 Pie

That means the main difference is 2 Crit, and assuming PIE is chosen 7 PIE, not to mention 2 DMG, 0.67 DPS, 3 VIT, and 3 MND between the two weapons, with the Omnilex coming out ahead in PIE and the High Allagan coming out ahead in everything else. Though the Omnilex comes out ahead by a whopping 31 Det if Determination is chosen.

So the question I have is, is 31 Det or 7 PIE worth losing 2 Crit, 2 DMG, 0.67 DPS, 3 VIT, and 3 MND (and if the Determination is chosen, an additional loss of 24 PIE)?

If you have T9 on farm, HA. If you don't, Novus.

not sure what you mean by have "T9 on farm" so I suppose that means I should focus on Novus then?

Wherever Weapons are concerned, Weapon Damage Trumps. The 2 WD the HA weapon adds is equivalent to roughly 16-17 additional Mind by itself. If the HA is accessible to you, it is always the best option, regardless of your Class/Job.

Pretty much if you're not successfully beating T9 every single week, then you should go for Novus.

Just so you know, 1 det = 0.22.. Mind.

High allagan is currently the best weapon in game, thus you need really good group for T9.
Also a luck for your weapon to drop. Now.. Zodiac weapons. They are absolute, with each major update they get an upgrade.
It will destroy high allagan eventually. But, ofc.. by that time there gonna be 3rd coil or grand allagan whatever it's lol.
However, zodiac remain 2nd powerful weapon in game. So you should farm your novus weapon while slowly progressing 2nd coil every week :)
In fact, if people don't farm novus now, later it's gonna be a nightmare. Good luck!

If you have a realistic possibility of a T9 kill in the near future I would say to not necessarily bother with Novus unless you want to; 2.2 BiS itemizations really lend themselves to having Piety on a weapon, especially if you're looking at High Allagan bell bottoms instead of Daystar pants. But... even with the lower Piety available this patch, 6 Piety is going to be negligible in comparison to the weapon damage you gain on HA Grimoire. It's a matter of preference, really, but it's a lot of effort for something that may end up sitting on retainer sooner rather than later... until the next phase of the Zodiac questline is introduced, anyway.

Personally I have a i110 Book of Diamonds; SS has actually begun to grow on me quite a bit for stance dancing DPS.

Overall, you have three possible scenarios, you have Novus, HA or the upgraded Book of Diamonds. The priority is honestly HA being best followed by a Novus that is optimally statted and then Book of Diamonds because the piety and spell speed aren't considered best for a SCH in terms of secondary stats. I would recommend at least picking up Novus or the Book of Diamonds if you are intent on clearing end game content, (although I'd argue with a good co-healer the i95 weapons obtainable from turn 5 or leviathan X are also enough to clear turn 9). The Book of Diamonds and Novus are 100% guaranteed for you if they are accessible, whereas with the HA, it is far superior but you are relying on a 1/9 chance every clear of turn 9 to obtain it. Overall, it is merely preference, the HA is the best choice but it does leave a lot to chance, a 0% chance if you are not clearing turn 9 yet.

edit: Also, if you are not making a lot of gil on the game or have the option to spiritbond your way through Novus, the upgraded Book of Diamonds might be your best option for now!

I think you should progress on novus while progressing on second coil and you will get whatever come first.
If u get Novus or Book of diamond before beat T9 is always extra bonus, but u can down T9 without any of these weapon, the i95 allagan one is enough.

^^ thats the answer. The Relic will keep improving while the HA is currently the better option. So work on both. If nothing else do your daily quest for the alexandrite.
