Hime is princess I think in Japanese.
If I recall correctly, Hime-chan refers to a player that uses a female avatar and typically plays/acts in a self-centered way, takes advantage of other players and overall tries to use their female appearance and/or actual gender to get what they want, feigning ignorance for mistakes etc.
It goes back all the way to FF11 times and was popularized on 2ch, no doubt.
That's correct. Whenever you see someone use it, it's likely them complaining about a certain player. I can't really think of anything we use in English for those kinds of players. The only thing that comes to mind is "attention whore."
edit: If you want to delve even deeper into the net culture behind the term, I did a quick check on google about it and I guess there's a list of general stereotypes for hime-chan players.
1. Female character
2. Typically Lalafell
3. Almost always main a healer (typically WHM)
4. Excessive use of emoticons ( (((o(*゚▽゚*)o))) (ノ´∀`*) (´・ω・`) etc )
5. "btw I'm a girl lol" type behavior.
That explains a lot LOL! During the live letter some Japanese people asked if there's a himechan. I thought to practice my bad Japanese and replied: there is (didn't say I am but my screen name had hime). They spammed the chat box with emoticons for short moments, then English speaking people did the same. Honestly thought that was really funny.
After that I said that I'm a different hime (thinking they might've been looking for a specific person) and apologized for the broken used language. They were nice people though and chatted for a brief time after that.
At that point I wondered what himechan really meant so I thought to ask about it here.
